Product news

Scientific Specialties, Inc (SSI), a US manufacturer of consumable plastics for laboratory researchers for 25 years, is proud to introduce its latest innovative products: a 5 mL graduated centrifuge tube and accompanying Flipper® rack.

Made in the USA at SSI’s ISO 9001:2008 certified facility, the 5 mL tube is ideal for sample volumes that fall in between microcentrifuge tubes and 15 mL conical tubes.

They feature graduations every 0.25 mL and a flat, frosted cap and writing pad for sample labeling and identification. Compared to 15 mL tubes, 5 mL tubes offer increased safety against contamination, as there is no need for pipettor barrels to enter inside the tube.

Natural, amber, and sterile options are available, and each unit is packaged in convenient stand up pouches. Unique to the industry, the assorted colors unit pack features 4 individually packaged colours.

As with all SSI products, they are certified free of RNase, DNase, DNA, and PCR inhibitors.

SSI is also releasing a 5 mL tube compatible Flipper® rack. Along with 5 mL tubes, the new rack can house sample sizes ranging from 0.5 mL to 50 mL tubes. Offered in assorted colors of red, blue, yellow, and green, it is an ideal way to reduce clutter at the lab bench.

Labware and Lab SuppliesLabware and lab supplies include various forms of glassware, plasticware, reagents and personal protective equipment (PPE) and are used across all scientific laboratories, enabling daily tasks to be performed. Explore a range of flasks and beakers, petri dishes, carboys and storage bottles. Labware such as condensers, desiccators and burettes are also available for more specific tasks. Find the best labware and lab supplies in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.CentrifugesCentrifuges are used to separate particulates suspended in a liquid via the application of a centrifugal force including cells, macromolecules, nanoparticles and precipitates. Centrifuges come in three sizes: microcentrifuges, benchtop and floor-standing centrifuges, depending on the volume and number of samples that require separation. When choosing a centrifuge, consider its maximum separation power indicated by its relative centrifugal force (RCF) value. Low force centrifuges reach a maximum RCF of 8,000 g, high-force centrifuges can reach maximum RCF values of 80,000 g. For extremely high forces, consider ultracentrifuges (up to 800,000 g). Refrigerated and vacuum centrifuges also known as concentrators are available for more specialized applications. A range of volumes are available for centrifuge tubes and microfuge tubes, depending on sample sizes. This will prevent deterioration and cross contamination, and improve the accuracy of sample tracking procedures.Sample StoragePreserving clinical trial samples to the highest standards is a critical component in maximizing the value of present day and future clinical research. Specialized storage and transportation of these tissue, blood and serum samples reduces the risk of them being damaged or lost.Lab EssentialsLab essentials include laboratory consumables that are vital to the operation of all laboratories.Sample ProcessingSample processing is required to prepare samples prior to analysis. Technologies used for sample processing include homogenizers, grinders, mills and mixers.
