Product news

Tepnel Life Sciences PLC and SoftGenetics today announced an agreement to market and distribute SoftGenetics GeneMarker® genotyping software for use with Tepnel's Elucigene QST*R products for prenatal detection of common chromosome abnormalities. Elucigene QST*R kits are a range of rapid DNA diagnostic tests that use STR markers to detect the three most common viable autosomal trisomies: trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) and trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome).

The combination of SoftGenetics GeneMarker software with QST*R will considerably streamline the data analysis process and results reporting time for users of the Elucigene diagnostic test kits.

Elucigene QST*R tests cover a range of DNA-based multiplexed diagnostic assays that use short tandem repeat (STR) markers to detect the three most common viable autosomal trisomies: Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome. Additional markers on the sex chromosomes X and Y can detect the most common sex chromosome aneuploidies, Klinefelter syndrome and Turner syndrome. Developed in collaboration with Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, London, Elucigene QST*R is a rapid testing technique that provides definitive results within 4 hours, including DNA extraction.

SoftGenetics specializes in the development of genetic analysis tools for both research and diagnostic applications.

Full support and documentation for the use of SoftGenetics GeneMarker, with Elucigene QST*R are available for users on the Tepnel website.

Genome AnalysisGenomics, the study of genomes, includes functional genomics, evolutionary genomics and comparative genomics. There are many genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing of whole genomes, computational biology and bioinformatics. DNA and nucleic acids must be isolated and concentrated from cells for analysis with kits, automated analyzers and software. Other useful technologies for studying genomics include PCR, microarrays and electrophoresis.Data AnalysisData analysis hardware and software is available to make data processing straight-forward yet powerful. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Chem / BioinformaticsCheminformatics and bioinformatics are computational techniques used in chemistry and biology, respectively, for data acquisition, processing and storage. Cheminformatics focuses on compound information, whereas bioinformatics is mainly applied to analysis and modeling of genomics, genetic and sequencing information. Hardware and software is available for data acquisition, analysis, management and storage.Point-of-CarePoint-of-Care Testing (POCT) or Near Patient Testing (NPT) products are available for urine, blood and other clinical chemistry analyses. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.Clinical TrialsClinical Trials, an essential part of drug discovery process, assess the safety and effectiveness of a new medication or device in the pharmaceutical industry. Clinical Trials are a phased process (Phase 0, Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV) which begins after initial preclinical testing.Clinical GeneticsMolecular Genetics covers the analysis of hereditary genetic disease and chromosomal abnormalities. Genetics can be analysed using DNA, RNA, and protein microarrays, PCR, RT PCR and DNA sequencing. Genetic equipment includes genetic workstations, thermal cyclers, cooling blocks and electrophoresis products. Diagnostic kits are used for DNA / RNA extraction and purification.
