TomKey is an innovative USB key for recording and displaying temperature now available from exclusive UK distributor Don Whitley Scientific. Manufactured by AES Chemunex, the device is designed to monitor the transportation of heat-sensitive clinical and medical samples.

Ensuring continuous traceability of temperatures between -40 and +80°C, TomKey is a simple, cost-effective monitoring device. Information such as current temperature, minimum and maximum levels reached and a threshold-exceeded alarm are displayed directly on the integrated LCD screen. With an IP67 rating, the shock-resistant unit is guaranteed to perform reliably even under dusty or wet conditions.

Two models are available, storing up to either 8,000 or 16,000 readings. The larger capacity memory is equivalent to testing at 15 minute intervals over a four-month period. Data is quickly and directly transferred using the built-in USB 2.0 connector, removing the need for any cables, and all information on the device is retained even if the battery fails. Calibration certification is supplied as standard, along with software for recording and processing collected data.

MicrobiologyMicrobiology is the study of microorganisms including protists, prokaryotes, fungi, and, often, viruses. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments. Clinical Trials are a phased process (Phase 0, Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV) which begins after initial preclinical testing.CalorimetryCalorimetry is a technique used to determine the heat released or absorbed in a chemical reaction. Calorimeters can be categorized into bomb calorimeters, constant pressure calorimeters, differential scanning calorimeters, isothermal titration calorimeters, X-ray microcalorimeters, heat-loss calorimeters, and high-energy particle calorimeters. The choice of calorimeter depends on the application.Thermal Analysis EquipmentThermal analysis equipment is used for measuring heat flow, weight loss, dimension changes or thermomechanical properties and is important for analyzing a material’s performance and stability. Thermal analysis equipment includes differential scanning calorimeters (DSC), thermogravimetric analyzers (TGA), thermomechanical analyzers (TMA), dilatometers, thermometers, vapor sorption analyzers, boiling and melting point apparatus. Thermal analyzers can reveal properties such as melting, crystallization and glass transitions or other processes such as oxidation, decomposition, volatilization, as well as coefficients of thermal expansion and modulus.
