Tecan has launched the Freedom EVOlyzer®-2 for fully guided, automated processing of ELISAs through its new generation EVOlution™ 2.0 software, which offers an exceptionally user-friendly graphical user interface with optional touchscreen and a number of new application-oriented features.

Tecan's IVD-D compliant Freedom EVOlyzer has proved to be a highly reliable tool for automated ELISA processing in clinical diagnostics for more than ten years. The open-platform Freedom EVOlyzer-2 automates ELISA kits from a variety of manufacturers and manages the entire workflow, from organizing the initial worktable configuration to providing the final assay results, calculated for each reagent kit's lot constant.

The EVOlution 2.0 software performs many routine clinical diagnostics tasks, such as continuous sample loading and automated processing of pre-dilution factors. A volume pre-checking function ensures there are sufficient reagents for all scheduled tasks, allowing long walkaway times for the user with complete peace of mind. The software's simple graphical loading dialogues and loading interface provide easy operation throughout the process, and its flexible scheduling options allow the order of assay processing to be defined and prioritized. Assays can also be bunched into profiles that facilitate everyday routine tasks and the system is suitable for working in batch mode using worklists or via an ASTM connection.

ELISAEnzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), also known as enzyme immunoassays (EIA), are used for the detection and quantification of proteins, peptides and antibodies in a sample. ELISA often comes in kit format, with pre-selected antibody pairs to detect specific proteins or biomarkers of diseases such as diabetes and obesity, or cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Detection is made possible with chemiluminescent, fluorescent or colorimetric substrates and detection instruments such as microplate / ELISA readers. Other kits available include: Enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assays for the quantification of protein-producing cells and chemiluminescent immunoassays (CLIA) kits. Immunology kits and analysis systems often use techniques such as ELISA, radioimmunoassay (RIA) and immunodiffusion assays, Immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Immunologists use equipment such as flow Cytometers, plate readers, plate washers and fluorescent microscopes.Clinical TrialsClinical Trials, an essential part of drug discovery process, assess the safety and effectiveness of a new medication or device in the pharmaceutical industry. Clinical Trials are a phased process (Phase 0, Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV) which begins after initial preclinical testing.Automated Liquid HandlingAutomated liquid handling equipment is used to mix, dilute and dispense allotted volumes of liquid into microplates and other vessels automatically. The robotic, liquid handling arms can dispense from single channel to 3456 multichannel as well as operate nanoliter dispensing, enabling high throughput of samples.
