Product news

SurModics In Vitro Technologies, part of SurModics Inc, has announced that it is to showcase two new products at Medica later this month. The SurModics® Assay Diluent (Protein-Free) and BioFX® TMB Enhanced HRP Membrane Substrate, will be on display at the DIARECT/SurModics IVD booth.

The SurModics® Assay Diluent (Protein-Free), is a proprietary protein-free buffer formulation that reduces matrix interference in samples including heterophilic antibodies such as HAMA (human anti-mouse antibody) and RF (rheumatoid factor). The protein-free formulation removes any possible risk of BSA-related issues in sample quantitation. The diluent can be easily incorporated into your assay to provide more accurate results, with fewer false positive results.

BioFX® TMB Enhanced HRP Membrane Substrate has a room temperature stability of 2 years, and 4 year stability at 4°C. The substrate is ready to use with no need for mixing and shows similar sensitivity to most mid- to high-level chemiluminescent membrane substrates, without the costly equipment needed for detection.

You can visit the DIARECT/ SurModics IVD booth in Hall 1 1/E17 at the Medica exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany, November 16-19, 2011. Alternatively, you can visit them at Booth 849, at the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) December 3-7 in Denver.

ELISAEnzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), also known as enzyme immunoassays (EIA), are used for the detection and quantification of proteins, peptides and antibodies in a sample. ELISA often comes in kit format, with pre-selected antibody pairs to detect specific proteins or biomarkers of diseases such as diabetes and obesity, or cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Detection is made possible with chemiluminescent, fluorescent or colorimetric substrates and detection instruments such as microplate / ELISA readers. Other kits available include: Enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assays for the quantification of protein-producing cells and chemiluminescent immunoassays (CLIA) kits. Immunology kits and analysis systems often use techniques such as ELISA, radioimmunoassay (RIA) and immunodiffusion assays, Immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Immunologists use equipment such as flow Cytometers, plate readers, plate washers and fluorescent microscopes.Protein PurificationProtein purification is a vital step in drug discovery, therapeutics, biotech and life science research. The purification process typically involves subcellular or membrane protein extraction with cell lysis kits, separation of proteins from cell debris by filtration or spin columns, and the isolation of proteins of interest from other proteins and impurities with affinity purification (including fusion protein tags and antibody binding proteins A, G and L), immunoprecipitation or chromatographic methods, such as ion exchange, size exclusion and immobilized metal affinity chromatography. All purification methods come in multiple formats for your laboratory needs, including agarose or magnetic beads, resins, columns and filter plates.
