Product news

New easy-to-use, rapid and reliable Comet Assay Electrophoresis systems which meet the increasing demands for single cell gel electrophoresis techniques, are the latest addition to the CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC (CSL) range of products.

Single cell gel electrophoresis offers a fast and convenient way for scientists to evaluate DNA damage in the cell which could be caused by a variety of environmental factors, such as chemicals and molecules. Pharmaceutical, medical device companies and other general laboratories are discovering that Comet Assay is a highly sensitive and efficient means of assessing and quantifying DNA damage and repair in drug development applications.

These convenient, light-free, quick to set-up Comet Assay units are capable of high quality, rapid and reliable sample resolution and provide optimum flexibility for a variety of single cell electrophoresis techniques. They also offer the benefit of word removed a highly efficient cooling platform which can be easily connected to a chiller. This enables high capacity cooling of the slides and so enhances the performance and consistency of results.

The range comprises six different models, four of which are for use with 10, 20, 40 or 80 standard sized slides, while two models are for use with three and six respectively of the newly released Trevigen 96 Cometslide.

All units are completely non-transparent to light and offer a very convenient solution to keeping the samples out of direct light which can reduce the efficiency of the assay.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners.
