Product news

Sigma, a division of Sigma-Aldrich™, is pleased to provide researchers additional Cell Biology solutions through the new Ion Channel Solutions Brochure and Ion Channels Web site. In addition to the most comprehensive product line in this area, the new tools will provide a wealth of scientific information to assist in the elucidation of ion channel function.

The Sigma Ion Channel Solutions Brochure provides a scientific overview of both voltage-gated and ligand-gated channels. Over 700 products are highlighted, including antibodies, toxins, inhibitors, and activators for ion channels, MISSION® RNAi libraries, and molecular biology products. Sigma's LOPAC bioactive compound libraries for ion channel drug discovery are also a feature.

The new Ion Channel Web site provides a portal to additional products and product information. The web site allows customers to access interactive tools, such as the online version of the Handbook of Receptor Classification and Signal Transduction, PathFinder Interactive Pathways, Your Favorite Gene™ search tool, and Sigma's own downloadable pathway slides.

"We believe that the Ion Channel Solutions Brochure and Web site are invaluable tools for scientists engaged in ion channel and drug discovery research. They offer a comprehensive line of products and information which, together, provide complete solutions to researchers in this area," said Tim Fleming, Director of Global Commercial Marketing at Sigma-Aldrich. "Sigma is committed to serving the needs of the cellular biology research community with best-in-class products and technologies."

AntibodiesAntibodies are used in techniques such as confocal and fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISPOT, immunohistochemistry, western blotting and immunopreciptation. Select specific antigen reactivity, high specific affinity, low non-specific binding, monoclonal or polyclonal, primary or secondary antibodies and associated conjugates such as an enzyme or dye for visualization.Cell Adhesion AssaysCell adhesion assays are used to quantitate attachment and analyze the molecular mechanisms for extracellular matrix adhesion, cell migration and sensitivity to inhibitors. Find the best cell adhesion assay equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Find the best cell and tissue culture products, kits and equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Genome AnalysisGenomics, the study of genomes, includes functional genomics, evolutionary genomics and comparative genomics. There are many genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing of whole genomes, computational biology and bioinformatics. DNA and nucleic acids must be isolated and concentrated from cells for analysis with kits, automated analyzers and software. Other useful technologies for studying genomics include PCR, microarrays and electrophoresis.Cell Lines Stem Cells and Primary CellsPrimary cell cultures, established cell lines and stem cells are vital for in vitro and ex vivo experimentation. High-quality cells, optimized for your applications, alongside optimized cell substrates, growth medium and supplements, are critical for experimental success. Explore a range of cells suitable for your applications, including isogenic cell lines, competent cells, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cell lines, fungal/bacterial/mammalian cell lines, stem cells and cancer cell lines. Find the best cells for your research in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Compound LibrariesCompound libraries, or chemical libraries, are used in drug discovery for the identification of potential therapeutics compounds. Used in conjunction with high-throughput screening, the libraries of stored compounds are often generated for specific purposes as a drug target or disease model. Cheminformatics are commonly used when designing a compound library and software can be used to analyze the screening process. RNA InterferenceRNA interference (RNAi) uses siRNA or miRNA for transcriptional silencing, gene knockdown and regulation of gene expression. RNAi requires chemical synthesis, introduction of DNA vectors into cells, an assay of RNAi effects and RNAi quantification or analysis. Consider target sequence selection, reagent preparation, controls, high specificity and effectiveness and low non-specific gene knockdown.
