Siemens Healthcare reveals its newest in vitro diagnostics innovations at the 2014 AACC Annual Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo, Chicago, July 27-31. Visitors to the Siemens exhibit – themed “Test smarter. Run faster.” – can explore Siemens’ portfolio of solutions, including new products and value-added services designed to en-hance workflow, foster multidisciplinary testing, and facilitate easier training.

New Solutions Enhance Workflow, Foster Multidisciplinary Approach

This year, Siemens is showcasing its latest advancements in central laboratory testing, including the ADVIA Chemistry XPT System1 and ADVIA Centaur XPT Immunoassay System2. These new instruments are designed to enhance workflow, support continuous operations and streamline processes to help laboratories quickly, reliably and cost-effectively meet ever-increasing workloads. For example, the sys-tems will offer new intuitive, icon-driven user software, large touchscreens and re-mote service diagnostics to support easy operation. Plus, each system will provide versatile technology enabling predictable and consistent turnaround times aimed to improve patient care.

Additionally, the ADVIA Chemistry XPT System and ADVIA Centaur XPT Immuno-assay System will have enhanced data management capabilities with Siemens’ CentraLink Data Management System1 and seamlessly connect to Aptio Automation1, Siemens’ latest track-based system. Booth visitors can learn about Aptio Automation’s new Tube Inspection Module1, which helps laboratories reduce pre-analytical errors and minimize the risk for tube mismatch, as well as featured multi-disciplinary connectivity options including Sysmex CS-5100 Hemostasis System3 and ADVIA 2120i Hematology System.1

New central laboratory IT offerings include the CentraLink Data Management Sys-tem Version 15, now with enhanced quality control offering increased configuration capabilities to support laboratory specific workflow for improved efficiency. This latest version of the CentraLink system includes an optional Advanced Hematology Module2 that enables labs to integrate their hematology workflow between Siemens hematology systems, automation solutions, and CellaVision analyzers for automated digital microscopy, resulting in reduced manual steps and increased efficiency. Addi-tionally displayed is syngo Lab Inventory Manager1, a real-time inventory-management system that employs cloud-based technology and wireless radio fre-quency identification (RFID). sLIM automates the manual inventory process, helping labs to maintain optimum stock levels and prevent inefficiency and downtime.

Product experts are available to discuss the company’s new instruments for urinalysis and drug testing. The CLINITEK AUWi PRO Automated Urinalysis System4 combines the CLINITEK Novus Urine Chemistry Analyzer and the Sysmex UF-1000 Urine Sediment Analyzer to provide automated, walkaway urine-chemistry testing and sediment analysis. Siemens’ Viva-ProE System5 is a next generation, dedicated drug-testing platform with intuitive touchscreen software and enhanced components designed to lower operating costs while delivering reliable results.

Innovative IT and Training Options Support the POC Ecosystem

Visitors to the booth can learn how Siemens is supporting an ecosystem approach to POC testing, which encompasses device and operator management, quality control (QC), compliance reporting, competency management, inventory management, remote monitoring and mobile access.

The latest software version of the RAPIDComm Data Management System1 now offers enhanced POC informatics capabilities, including support for the RAPIDComm Web Application. This new web application allows POC coordinators, via a handheld device, to view instrument status, troubleshoot issues, and remotely manage blood gas instruments. The new software also enables an interface to Sie-mens PEP (Personalized Education Plan) Administrator, an innovative web-based software that helps to simplify and streamline administration or staff education and training programs.

Siemens is also unveiling the POCkit educational solution, which is a web-based tool designed to make access to educational materials quick and easy for healthcare professionals working at the point of care. Specifically, the POCkit can provide immediate access via a mobile device to the latest topics, videos and links related to the use of Siemens POC testing solutions. This means that healthcare professionals can look up information while operating a device, regardless of their location.

In addition, the company is sponsoring several educational workshops during the meeting, covering topics related to women’s health, rheumatoid arthritis and population management informatics.
