Hospital members can now obtain a complete line of Siemens products through Novation

Siemens Healthcare announces a new three-year agreement with Novation for its blood gas systems and supplies. This agreement marks the latest in a series of con-tracts between Siemens – already a long-time Novation awarded supplier – and the industry’s leading health care supply chain expertise, analytics and contracting company. Novation serves the more than 100,000 members and affiliates of VHA Inc., UHC, Children’s Hospital Association and Provista LLC.

Through Novation, hospital members can obtain a complete line of Siemens products, including chemistry, immunoassay, integrated chemistry, hemostasis, hematology, urinalysis and microbiology systems and tests, along with automation solutions. The latest contract, effective March 1, 2014, provides opportunities for savings on the Siemens RAPIDPoint System and RAPIDLab System portfolios, as well as the RAPIDComm Data Management System, which allows for centralized management of blood gas testing at the point of care to standardize procedures, facilitate compliance and improve risk management.

“We are pleased to expand our relationship with Novation and offer the members they serve our point-of-care blood gas testing solutions,” said David Stein, Ph.D., CEO, Point of Care Business Unit, Diagnostics Division, Siemens Healthcare. “At Siemens we are focused on providing innovative solutions that enable our customers to enhance their operational efficiency while delivering accurate and reliable testing results.”

HematologyIn Haematology / Hematology, complete blood cell counts (or full blood counts) are obtained using automated blood count analyzers to enumerate blood cell types.  Hematology also encompasses haemostasis and coagulation, thrombophilia and hemophilia, plasma viscosity and ESR analysis, hemoglobinopathies, cell morphology and haematinic measurement.ImmunologyImmunological techniques measure and characterize immune responses. Immunology kits and analysis systems often use techniques such as ELISA, radioimmunoassay (RIA) and immunodiffusion assays, Immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Immunologists use equipment such as flow Cytometers, plate readers, plate washers and fluorescent microscopes.Point-of-CarePoint-of-Care Testing (POCT) or Near Patient Testing (NPT) products are available for urine, blood and other clinical chemistry analyses. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.Clinical ChemistryBiochemistry (or clinical chemistry) involves the analysis of bodily fluids using chemical tests. Techniques used include HPLC, chromatography, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, immunochemical, electrophoresis, turbidometric / spectrophotometric assay, MRI and ISE analysis. Tests are often carried out on plasma or serum but urine (urinalysis) and fecal specimens are also processed.Point of Care SolutionsPoint of care solutions provide medical diagnostics and treatments at or near the site of patient care. These technologies offer rapid results, helping healthcare providers make quick decisions. From glucose monitors to molecular diagnostics, point of care solutions are transforming healthcare delivery by reducing wait times and improving patient outcomes.
