Product news

Tecan, one of the world’s leading players in the growing life sciences industry, will be demonstrating a range of its latest products for genomics, proteomics, drug discovery and clinical diagnostic applications at the Analytica trade fair in Munich on 25-28 April 2006, at Hall B1, stand number 211/310.

Visitors will be able to witness Tecan’s Freedom EVO® 200 liquid handling workstation with its new multichannel arm, a second Freedom EVO with two liquid handling (LiHa) arms that act completely independently, and the Te-MO™ multichannel pipetting module. Also on show will be the Freedom EVO 75, now also available with robotic manipulator arm, and the Aquarius™ automated multichannel pipetting system.

Tecan’s new Infinite™ 200 series of flexible, upgradeable microplate readers will be demonstrated on the stand, with the versatile Sunrise™ absorbance microplate reader and the monochromator-based Safire2™ microplate detection system. The PW384™ microplate washer and the Columbus Pro™ high-performance strip-washer will also be available, as well as the HS 400™ Pro fully automated hybridization station and the high sensitivity LS Scanner from Tecan’s microarray suite.

Genome AnalysisGenomics, the study of genomes, includes functional genomics, evolutionary genomics and comparative genomics. There are many genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing of whole genomes, computational biology and bioinformatics. DNA and nucleic acids must be isolated and concentrated from cells for analysis with kits, automated analyzers and software. Other useful technologies for studying genomics include PCR, microarrays and electrophoresis.MicroplatesMicroplates are multi-well plates used to increase the throughput of biological investigations. The number of wells microplates contain can range from 6 to 3243 wells, with the 96-well format being the most commonly used. Microplates can come tailored for a range of applications including cell culture, PCR, filtration, storage, non-binding surface, protein crystallization, as well as pre-coated, deep well and normal Standard microplates. Additionally, options for microplate colors include clear , black, white or black with clear bottom and white with clear bottom for absorbance microplate reader applications. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Pipettes and DispensersPipettes and dispensers are essential lab equipment used to dispense measured volumes of liquid accurately. Explore a range of manual and electronic pipettes, including single and multichannel, serological and volumetric pipettes, as well as a range of pipette tips. Bottle-top dispensers are also available for simple and fast solvent dispensing. Find the best pipettes & dispensers in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Microplate Readers / DetectorsMicroplate readers are used to automate the detection and analysis of labeled or label-free components in microplates during assays or live-cell monitoring. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput.
