Sean has written several reviews on SelectScience

Sean has been working at DuPont Pioneer for more than 10 years and has a background in computer science and electronic engineering. His role is to advise, collaborate and support scientists in automating laboratory processes and, via automation, increase the throughput of assays and help scientists achieve consistent and accurate evaluation of samples.

Managing New Automation Projects

In addition to supporting a wide range of existing automation equipment, Sean usually runs one major new project per year; most recently he managed the integration of a new Hamilton Vantage liquid handling system, which will be working alongside three existing Hamilton NIMBUS platforms.

Why SelectScience?

"SelectScience converges information for me: product reviews from peers; articles and interviews; videos, product comparisons, and more," says Sean. "Scientists always look for recommendations and I rely on SelectScience as a one-stop shop for gathering information and for reviews posted by my peers. It's often hard finding information on every vendor's site, and by consolidating the information and making it easy to search through, SelectScience makes that process easy."

Scientists always look for recommendations and I rely on SelectScience to put that in front of us. It's often hard finding information on every vendor's site, but SelectScience makes that process easy

Likes

  • The clutter-free, clear format and menu navigation and the colour themes are nice!
  • There is now a more direct access to content through the homepage and menu navigation
  • Like the video content - I can see products in action!

Recommendations

  • Would like to see the site search results improved to show less filtering options when not necessary, and also would be great to see more thumbnail pictures for search results.
  • It would be great to see even more reviews, as more reviews provides more trust in that product and company.

"Many thanks to Sean. We are already working to improve the search results display and, most importantly, we are actively encouraging all SelectScience members to write more product reviews!" Kerry Parker, Editor-in-Chief

Microplate Readers / DetectorsMicroplate readers are used to automate the detection and analysis of labeled or label-free components in microplates during assays or live-cell monitoring. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput. Find the best microplate readers in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Sample ManagementSample management systems include sample storage devices such as freezers and plate storers, sample environment enclosures and sample organization, retrieval and sorter systems. Useful system features include high-throughput, automation, robotic arms, automated liquid handling and associated database systems. Accessories in sample management include barcode scanners, heat sealers and tubes.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Find the best cell-based assay products, kits and equipment with our peer reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receiving pricing direct from manufacturers.Gene Expression and Molecular CloningMolecular cloning is a set of techniques that utilizes vectors to transfer recombinant DNA into host cells and is an essential tool for investigating the expression of genes and proteins in bacterial or mammalian cells. A variety of vectors optimized for gene cloning and expression in a range of host organisms are available, alongside competent cells for genetic replication. Here, you can explore a range of molecular tools, high-quality genomic and cDNA libraries, premade clones, transformation and transfection reagents and mutagenesis or gene expression detection assays and expression arrays. Find the best gene expression and molecular cloning products in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Robotic InstrumentsRobotic instruments can be used for high-throughput automation of many lab processes. Such processes use instruments for assays like cell based assays and ELISA, for sample preparation like shakers, centrifuges and incubators, and for analysis such as sequencing and western blot analyzers. Useful features of robotic instruments include speed, reproducibility, barcode readers, software and automation.Plate ProcessingAutomated plate processing is used in microplate technologies for high-throughput, speed and efficiency. Plate processing systems include microplate handlers for moving plates, heat sealers, stackers and carousels for storage, retrieval and delivery, microplate washers and piercers. Useful features of plate processors include walk-away automation, compatibility and easy integration with microplate systems.
