Industry news

The SCIENION workshop series brings together experts from across the world, academia and industry to exchange on the latest developments in human, veterinary and environmental diagnostic applications.

The Workshop series is spread over two days, featuring four individual sessions containing talks from leading scientists. The session topics are as follows:

Workshop Day One:

Session one: Applications & Technologies, featuring talks on single cell-isolation and dispensing, automated extraction of cfDNA.

Session two: Next Generation Diagnostics: Biosensors and Microfluids, featuring talks on microfluidic POC devices and MEMS-based disposable tests and homogeneous immunodiagnostics.

Workshop Day Two:

Session three: Multiplex Arrays: From Lab to Market, focuses on the devielopment from lab diagnostic methods to clinical diagnostics.

Session four: Multiplexing on membranes: Innovative diagnostic tests, such as membrane-based multiplexing.

Exhibition & Sponsoring

In parallel to the conference, a commercial exhibition will take place. Companies willing to present their equipment, products and services may book an exhibition stand. This will include an opportunity to have a short oral presentation in a dedicated session.

Venue & Accommodation

The workshops will take place at the Mövenpick Hotel Berlin, near Potsdamer Platz, in the vibrant center of Berlin. The hotel is centrally located and well connected to Berlin public transport systems. The hotel offers a special rate for workshop attendees. Reservations should be made using the code ‘SCIENION’. The reserved block is limited and will be allocated on the first come, first served basis.

Registration Fee

The registration fee includes:
• all workshop materials, refreshments and lunch
• Thursday evening event
• access to the exhibition
• USB stick with all presentations

Lab-on-a-ChipLab-on-a-chip (LOC) technology uses microfluidic chips, such as microarrays, to perform biochemical assays on a small scale. Benefits of lab-on-a-chip include the small volume of sample required as well as the speed of analysis. In selecting lab-on-a-chip devices consider the assay, cost, reliability, sensitivity and signal to noise ratio.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Find the best cell-based assay products, kits and equipment with our peer reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receiving pricing direct from manufacturers.DNA / RNA Extraction and PurificationPurified DNA and RNA are required for numerous downstream molecular biology applications. Consequently, the importance of high-quality DNA/RNA extraction and purification equipment cannot be underestimated. Many purification kits are available and are typically optimized for nucleic acid type and source, including plasmid DNA, genomic DNA, mRNA, RNA and viral nucleic acid purification kits. Automated extraction and purification of nucleic acids can be implemented with magnetic bead separator instruments or high-throughput purification workstations. Find the best DNA/RNA extraction and purification equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Point-of-CarePoint-of-Care Testing (POCT) or Near Patient Testing (NPT) products are available for urine, blood and other clinical chemistry analyses. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.DNA SequencingDNA sequencing, such as sanger sequencing, is a biological technique that determines the precise order of nucleotide bases in a fragment or template of DNA. DNA sequencers and genetic analyzers are based on capillary electrophoresis, where labeled DNA fragments are electrophoretically separated by size as they migrate through a polymer. Current diagnostic methods include biopsy, imaging and blood tests for known biomarkers. New methods in research development include liquid biopsies and cancer breathalyzers.Single Cell AnalysisSingle-cell analysis involves studying individual cells to gain insights into their behavior, gene expression, and function. This approach is valuable in cancer research, stem cell biology, and immunology. This process is essential in genomics, diagnostics, and evolutionary biology. Techniques like next-generation sequencing (NGS) and Sanger sequencing provide high-throughput and precise data for analyzing genomes and transcriptomes.
