Product news

The latest Scie-Plas catalogue is a highly significant publication, representing a five-fold expansion compared with previous editions. Celebrating a rich heritage of innovation in the development, design and manufacture of electrophoresis equipment, the new Scie-Plas catalogue offers everything from gel tanks to chemicals and gel documentation systems, plus a greatly expanded range of radiation protection and laboratory safety products.

New products include the HU15 Standard Horizontal gel electrophoresis unit, which complies with the accepted industrial size standard, additions to the Varigel range of economically priced horizontal units, and new-style electroblotters and vertical gel electrophoresis systems.

Other highlights from the Scie-Plas catalogue are cellulose acetate electrophoresis systems for clinical applications, UV sterilisation cabinets, SERVA electrophoresis chemicals, including pre-cast gels and IPG strips, and VISION imaging and gel documentation systems with analysis software.

According to Dick Barker, Scie-Plas Chairman, ‘We are delighted that the new catalogue demonstrates the breadth and depth of the product ranges we are now able to offer. Scie-Plas has always been a pioneer – not just in the quality and ease of use of our products, but also in achieving the highest safety standards. Our extensive resources enable us to continually develop new products and to provide excellent customer support.’

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. Explore a range of a gel imaging systems, densitometers, scanners, transilluminators or UV lamp + CCD cameras for your image analysis solutions. Colorimetric, fluorescent and/or radioisotopic samples can be visualized and documented for further analysis.
