Scie-Plas Cellulose Acetate Systems Acquire IVD Compliance

24 Sept 2007

Product news

Scie-Plas Cellulose Acetate Systems now fully conform with Regulation 44 of the European In Vitro Diagnostics Medical Devices Directive 98/79/EC. Each Cellulose Acetate System may be used with Scie-Plas cellulose acetate membranes as an in vitro diagnostic system for the detection of metabolic disorders, such as those indicated by urinary glycosaminoglycans.

Consequently, all Scie-Plas Cellulose Acetate Systems and Membranes will bear the CE logo as follows: -

  • CA-SYS - 30 x 32cm cellulose acetate tank system
  • CA-SYS-MINI - 18 x 30.5cm cellulose acetate tank system
  • CA-MEM-S - 100 x ATX-micro solid standard, small-format cellulose acetate membranes, 78 x 75mm
  • CA-MEM-M - 50 x ATX-micro solid standard, medium-format cellulose acetate membranes, 78 x 150mm
  • CA-MEM-M - 50 x ATX-micro solid standard, large-format cellulose acetate membranes, 145 x 192mm

The acquisition of IVD compliance for its exclusive cellulose acetate systems is yet another pioneering innovation from Scie-Plas: Europe’s LARGEST manufacturer of electrophoresis and radiation safety equipment.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.
