Sartorius Stedim Biotech, a leading international supplier for the biopharmaceutical industry, opened a new bioanalytical and biosafety testing laboratory yesterday in the major biotech hub of Boston, Massachusetts. This dedicated bioanalytical laboratory is designed to accommodate the rising demand for the company’s BioOutsource brand specialized assay platforms in North America and facilitate the ongoing expansion of this unique service offering.

At the opening ceremony, Reinhardt Vogt, member of SSB’s Executive Committee, welcomed many representatives from the biotech industry and the local community to the new laboratory. In his opening speech, Reinhard Vogt stated: “Our new laboratory will offer customers the analytical expertise to help them accelerate entry into clinical phases. We chose Boston as the site for our laboratory because it is a premier biotech hub, enabling us to showcase our portfolio of bioanalytical and biosafety tests, as well as attract the best technical staff to continue our expansion here in the future.”

The purpose-built laboratory features state-of-the-art technology, such as Biacore analytical instruments, and offers advanced analytical testing services. These include Antibody Dependent Cell Cytotoxicity (ADCC); Complement Dependent Cytotoxicity (CDC) and Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) assay platforms; as well as cell-based assays and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). SSB’s new laboratory, which covers approximately 9,000 sq. ft., will also provide GMP-compliant in vitro and PCR-based assays for the detection of adventitious agents. Staffed by bioanalytical experts, including 15 scientists, the new laboratory provides easy access for customers to visit and have face-to-face meetings to discuss technical questions.

AntibodiesAntibodies are used in techniques such as confocal and fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISPOT, immunohistochemistry, western blotting and immunopreciptation. Select specific antigen reactivity, high specific affinity, low non-specific binding, monoclonal or polyclonal, primary or secondary antibodies and associated conjugates such as an enzyme or dye for visualization.Cell Lines Stem Cells and Primary CellsPrimary cell cultures, established cell lines and stem cells are vital for in vitro and ex vivo experimentation. High-quality cells, optimized for your applications, alongside optimized cell substrates, growth medium and supplements, are critical for experimental success. Explore a range of cells suitable for your applications, including isogenic cell lines, competent cells, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cell lines, fungal/bacterial/mammalian cell lines, stem cells and cancer cell lines. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Find the best cell-based assay products, kits and equipment with our peer reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receiving pricing direct from manufacturers.CytotoxicityCytotoxicity assays measure the toxic effects of substances on cells, often used in drug testing and environmental studies. These tests are crucial in determining the safety of chemicals and pharmaceutical compounds. Clinically inactive components will have minor differences, but there are no significant differences between the biosimilar and the original product in terms of potency, purity and safety.Assay DevelopmentThe process of proving an assay to be sensitive with respect to the target is known as assay development. The assay should be able to characterize novel compounds and measure the potency of these compounds against a validated biological target.Therapeutic AntibodiesTherapeutic antibodies are antibodies engineered for use in treating diseases. They can be designed to target specific antigens, blocking harmful interactions or modulating immune responses. Therapeutic antibodies are critical in treating conditions like cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases. Explore the best therapeutic antibody products in our peer-reviewed product directory; compare options, check reviews, and get pricing directly from manufacturers.ImmunoassayImmunoassays are laboratory tests that utilize antibody-antigen interactions to detect specific substances. They are widely used in diagnostics for detecting diseases, drug testing, and environmental monitoring. These assays offer rapid, sensitive, and precise detection of biomarkers, making them invaluable in clinical and research labs.
