Is the 'best-by' date correct? Is the metal detector functioning properly? Has the cold chain been interrupted? These or similar questions are faced daily by production managers in charge of complex sophisticated hygienic processes. In other areas of industry, too, reliability and speed are becoming more important all the time. Support from intelligent software is essential for meeting today's strict quality standards in production facilities.

The ProControl for Windows (SPCfWin) quality assurance system from Sartorius monitors, analyzes and archives all data generated in processes and in the laboratory. In addition to average weight control of prepackages in accordance with legal regulations, SPCfWin can monitor all characteristics pertaining to quality and hygiene, whether through sampling or by checking the entire production output. The SPCfWin system offers an uncomplicated and economical way to ensure that all legal requirements are met, such as the EU's regulation 2200/178 on traceability, as well as standards and supply agreements (e.g., IFS, HACCP, and ISO 22000). Results of regular critical control point analysis in accordance with HACCP regulations can be stored, monitored, evaluated and archived for any length of time electronically.

With the optional statistical process control module (SPC), you can process all quantitative characteristics, whether measured or estimated, including cooling, boiling and core temperatures, vacuum, pH and Brix values, and product dimensions. Attributive characteristics such as product specific and environmental factors can be processed in the same manner.

Furthermore, SPCfWin minimizes overfill and saves on raw materials. SPCfWin is equipped with sophisticated archiving and evaluation routines and offers flexible options for generating customized reports. With real-time, machine-specific evaluations, SPCfWin helps prevent costly reject batches and enables monitoring in accordance with the costs-by-cause principle. SPCfWin stores data reliably, with 100% traceability, and records every single attribute relevant for the process, including time, machine number, and batch and operator identification. With access to all this data, the process is truly transparent.

The SPCfWin software comes in three different editions: the full version, the basic version – which emphasizes average weight control of prepackages – and SPCfWin Xpress, which is available free of charge and can be downloaded from the Internet quickly and easily. The download version includes average weight control of prepackages with centralized data administration, evaluation, and AWC data acquisition for use with an existing computer installation and Sartorius weighing instruments. This makes it remarkably easy to integrate SPCfWin in an existing system.

Balances and Moisture AnalyzersBalances & Moisture Analyzers / weighing scales measure static or dynamic loads. Features to consider when choosing an analytical balance include accuracy, capacity and resolution. Additional features and specialized balances include enclosures for weighing powder, microbalances for measuring small quantities, portable balances, moisture analyzers, top loading balances and internal calibration for measurements over time or with varied temperature.pH Meters and ElectrodesIon and pH meters are electrochemical equipment used to measure the pH (acidity or alkalinity) or specific ion concentration of a solution. Other meters can also measure the conductivity or dissolved oxygen content of a solution. pH meters, specific ion meters, conductivity meters and dissolved oxygen meters can come as benchtop or portable equipment. A meter’s electrodes can be replaced with easy to clean electrodes or electrodes for difficult media. pH, ion and conductivity meters are typically used in life science research, pharmaceutical testing, food and beverage, environmental and water analysis. Find the best pH meters and electrodes in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Process ChemistryProcess chemistry is an important stage of drug development for scaling-up drug production or chemical synthesis reactions. It is useful for optimizing economical and efficient drug production. Process chemistry uses reactors and pump systems as well as reagents, standards and buffers.Environmental Monitoring and TestingEnvironmental monitoring and testing uses handheld portable analyzers, kits, spectrometers or chromatography systems for air, water, soil, food and other sample testing. Useful features of analyzers such as BOD and COD include portability, easy calibration, automation and sensitivity.  Environmental test kits for pH, water, moisture, etc, should be accurate, sensitive, reliable, fast and easy to use.pH and Conductivity MetersIon and pH meters, used for electrochemical techniques and measurements, measure the concentration of specific ions using electrodes (probes) and a meter. Features of ph and ion meters to consider include temperature compensation, auto-calibration, adjustable resolution, measurable range and accuracy. Meters can be handheld, portable, benchtop and modular.RheometryRheometers are used to measure the rheology of fluids, which is the flow of fluids in response to an applied force. The most common types of rheometer include shear rheometers (capillary, cone and plate and rotational cylinder) and extensional rheometers. Viscometers are similar to rheometers however viscometers only measure the viscosity of a fluid.ViscometersViscometers are used to measure the viscosity of a fluid. Types of viscometer include rotational, vibrational and falling piston viscometers. Options for viscometers include modular, portable, benchtop and temperature compensation and density measurement features.Compound AnalysisCompound analysis is used to discover specific compounds that could be promising candidates for pharmaceutical use. This potential is identified when compounds have the desired effect, such as interaction with a target protein, during high throughput screening.
