Roche today announced the global launch of new software updates, including advanced high- resolution melting analysis and qualitative gene detection modules for the Light Cycler 96 and new support features for the LightCycler Nano system.

The new LightCycler 96 module for high- resolution melting analysis will be particularly valuable in human genetic disease research applications. It enables easy and fast detection of known and unknown gene mutations, including Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms, deletions and methylated regions; analyses can be performed without temperature calibration. The novel dedicated qualitative detection module for LightCycler 96 enables direct detection and validation of a target gene´s presence or absence. This module also employs a novel control concept and is designed mainly for customers doing research in the field of infectious diseases.

The new features of the LightCycler Nano include advanced gene expression analysis mediated by the import of external standard curves. It also offers an enhanced analysis method for high- resolution melting experiments.

“The launch of these new software tools underlines our ongoing commitment to broadening the innovative features offered by our PCR systems,” said Gerd Haberhausen, Head of qPCR and Sample Preparation Systems. “We can build on almost 15 years of expertise in developing high-performance PCR systems that enable research breakthroughs for our customers around the world.”

Roche launched the LightCycler 96 System in October 2012 with a variety of analysis methods including endpoint genotyping and absolute and relative quantification. Data generated by the system can be analyzed directly or remotely for translation into publication-ready results in line with MIQE* guidelines. With the new software it will also be possible to create pdf or HTML reports directly on the instrument.

The new software tools for the LightCycler 96 and LightCycler Nano systems will be supplied on a UBS stick and will also be available to all customers for immediate download at www.lightcycler.com.

LightCycler® Nano Real-Time PCR Instrument

LightCycler® Nano Instrument - Real-time PCR amplification and detection instrument for tube-based assays of up to 32 (4 x 8) samples per run, with minimal noise, footprint and weight. Assembled from just a few building blocks, the robust LightCycler® Nano System is easy to transport and install. Up to 32 samples can be run in 0.2 ml tubes connected as strips. Fast heating and cooling is done using Peltier elements. Assay performance is supported further by a heated lid. Excitation is provided by high intensity LEDs filtered to provide light at 500 nm that is capable of exciting all fluorophores commonly used in qPCR. A prism is used to generate spectra from fluorescent emissions. These spectra are imaged using a CMOS camera. The LightCycler® Nano Instrument is a 32-sample real-time PCR device for gene expression and genetic variation analyses in mono and dual color mode. Due to its small size, low weight and easy handling of reaction devices and software, this exceptionally silent instrument is ideal for scientists using real-time PCR for everyday use. The LightCycler® Nano Instrument is designed for life science research only and not intended for use in diagnostic procedures.LightCycler® Nano Instrument Features: Quick start using templates for all major applications Straightforward setup and editing of sample and target information Intuitive use of colors in run definition and analysis plots and plate views, providing sample, target and reference gene information Analysis modules for absolute and relative quantification, melting curve analysis, endpoint genotyping and high-resolution melting (HRM) Compatible with Windows and Mac Systems Instrument start from a USB flash drive, using preprogrammed run definition files
