The development team at Retsch GmbH in Haan, Germany, has developed a compact and powerful cutting mill that comes with a whole series of new benchmarks. The Total Access concept allows access to all relevant components of the grinding process via push-fit. Even the entire milling chamber can be removed – with just one hand.

The basis of all development processes at Retsch is the close and continuous exchange with its customers worldwide. The resulting needs and problems are evaluated and directly integrated into the development process.

In addition, Retsch offers free test grinds that provide a valuable exchange with laboratories, companies and scientific institutions from all over the world. Combined with the company's long-term development expertise, the SM 50 was able to define a new cutting mill that fills a gap in the market.

Retsch CEO Dr. David Szczesny, says, "With the SM 50, we have developed a powerful and space-saving tabletop cutting mill that raises the process of sample preparation to an entirely new level. Thanks to our unique development approach, we have once more succeeded and reinforced our position as world market leader through our innovative strength.”

Mills, Sieves and PressesMills, sieves and presses are used to break and sort solid materials into smaller particle sizes for further processing such as pellet pressing or analysis. Milling equipment includes grinders, ball mills, cutting mills, jaw crushers, knife mills, beater and planetary mills. Sorting of smaller particulates can be achieved with test sieves and sieve shakers. Final powders can be pressed with hydraulic presses. Milling and pressing solid samples is an important preparation step in X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) and diffraction (XRD).
