Phenomenex Inc., a global leader in the research and manufacture of advanced technologies for the separation sciences, introduces Strata-X Microelution 96-Well Plates, enabling solid phase extraction (SPE) from samples as small as 10µL along, with low elution volumes. These cost-effective 96-well plates conserve precious samples and reduce time requirements compared to traditional SPE plates, which require 200 µL elution volumes and a dry-down step to produce sufficient concentration. This dry-down step is time-consuming and can reduce analyte recovery of peptides and thermolabile compounds. The new Strata-X Microelution 96-well plates are ideal for work with biological samples in pharmaceutical, clinical research and forensic laboratories.

Strata-X Microelution 96-well plates follow the same procedure as traditional 96-well SPE plates, however elution volumes are as low as 25µL, eliminating the need to perform a dry-down step. Strata-X Microelution 96-well plates can be used with a vacuum manifold or positive-pressure system and can be automated with a robotic liquid handler for further time and labor savings. The new plates are offered in all five Strata-X polymeric selectivities to cover a wide range of analytes from Strata-X-C and Strata-X-CW for basic compounds, Strata-X for neutral compounds and Strata-X-A and Strata-X-AW for acidic compounds.

“The Microelution format saves 30 or more minutes per 96-well plate by eliminating the dry-down step and allows analysts to process small-volume samples that are not amenable to traditional 10 mg SPE formats,” explains Erica Pike, brand manager for Phenomenex. “The use of SPE is on the rise in many types of labs, especially clinical research and forensic.”
