PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences, a global leader in application-focused measurement and analysis solutions, today announced the introduction of the Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer (STA) 6000, a reliable and durable thermal analysis tool for routine and research applications in the polymers, pharmaceutical, ceramics and food markets. The PerkinElmer STA 6000 applies advanced sensor technology and allows automatic optimization and analysis of data to enable laboratories to work more efficiently and yield greater accuracy and improved results.

The instrumentation is debuting at the North American Thermal Analysis Society Conference, Booth #2, Aug. 26-29 in East Lansing, Mich.

The STA 6000 simultaneously analyzes weight loss (TGA) and heat flow changes (DTA and DSC) for enhanced measurements. “Its patent-pending SaTurnA™ sensor results in a flat DTA baseline providing high sensitivity and resolution while the compact furnace allows for optimal temperature control for reliable results,” said Martin Long, vice president, Materials Characterization, PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences.

The STA 6000 also includes an optional, easy-to-load, vertical 45-position autosampler. It is the highest capacity autosampler available and can operate unattended for increased throughput and efficiency.

The autosampler is controlled by the Pyris™ Player, a standard feature in Pyris software. The Pyris Player can group like analyses together to simplify setup and sequence analyses in any order the user requests. In addition, the Pyris Player controls the autosampler for greater efficiency. The software also operates with a 21 CFR part 11 option for pharmaceutical laboratories.

The STA 6000 features the fastest cool-down time available, cooling in less than 10 minutes from 1000 degrees to 30 degrees C. To capture complete moisture and solvent evaporation, users can start experiments as low as 15 degrees C. An integrated mass flow gas control and switch device provides accurate environmental control.

The STA 6000 can also be connected to a mass spectrometer (MS) or a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR) for enhanced materials characterization.
