EMD Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany, has announced the availability of on-demand viewing for its 2014 virtual conference, “5-Star LC-MS Practices.”

The live version of the conference was held on December 2 and 3, and addressed the need for the use of high-quality tools in Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), including five major types of materials: ultrapure water, solvents, reagents, filters, and liquid chromatography columns. Now visitors who were unable to attend the live virtual conference may visit the site at their leisure.

During the conference, EMD Millipore experts from around the world presented a series of webinars focusing on LC-MS best practices for their respective areas. The webinars demonstrated why the use of “5-star” materials is critical for LC-MS work, and showed participants how to maximize their research using a variety of tips and tricks. Each webinar was followed by an interactive Q&A session, where attendees were able to ask questions about the webinars, or consult with the speakers about their own specific research.

The “5-Star LC-MS Practices” Virtual Conference includes three webinars:

> “Selecting the Right Filter for Improved LC and LC-MS” featuring guest speaker Dr. Vivek Joshi, Principal Research Scientist, EMD Millipore – Bioscience Business Area.

> “Solutions for Mass Spectrometry: Tips, Tricks, and Applications” presented by Dr. Stephan Altmaier, Head of Application Laboratory HPLC-MS, Advanced Analytics Business Field, Lab Solutions Business Area, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

> “Don’t Overlook Water Quality in Your LC-MS Applications” featuring guest speaker Anastasia Khvataeva, Applications Support Scientist, Lab Water Business Field, Lab Solutions Business Area, Millipore S.A.S.

On-demand registrants are also free to visit other areas of the “5-Star LC-MS Practices” Virtual Conference site, including the Exhibition Hall. Here visitors will find three booths related to the conference theme (“Effective Tools for LC and LC-MS Sample Prep,” “Solvents, Reagents and Columns for LC-MS,” and “Ultrapure Water in the LC-MS Laboratory”).

Finally, the Resource Library is also open for visitors who would like to review and download new and exciting data, abstracts and videos, as well as scientific articles.

Please visit the 5-Star LC-MS Practices - 2014 Virtual Conference website today to register for on-demand viewing.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. It provides detailed information about the structure, composition, and properties of compounds and is widely used across fields such as environmental monitoring, materials science, drug discovery and development, food and beverage testing, and wider chemical research. Key MS techniques include tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LS-MS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS). Choosing from these wide range of techniques and technologies can be a daunting task, so keep up to date with scientific applications, performance expectations, and customer reviews here all in one place. These systems include demineralization, reverse osmosis, filtration and ultrafiltration. A combination of methods is sometimes necessary to achieve purified water suitable for use in experiments.Pure WaterPure water is processed to remove significant level of contaminants and is suitable for use in many laboratory applications.
