NovoPath, Inc., a leader in Best-of-Breed Anatomic Pathology Software Solutions, now offers a truly integrated Flow Cytometry Reporting solution. NovoPath's integrated Flow Cytometry Reporting solution, with custom-designed reports incorporating results from flow, cytogenetics, and biopsies, strengthens the clinician’s ability to build a clear comprehensive diagnostic or prognostic picture.

Once again, NovoPath has changed the paradigm. The days of transcribing individual marker results – passing around separate histograms and scatter plots – are over. NovoPath now offers a simple and direct way to retrieve and parse results that mirror those downloaded from the flow cytometer. All images are now automatically downloaded and attached directly to the patient’s case so they are “just a click away,” retrievable for viewing, printing and inclusion in the patient report when desired.

Setup is easy and efficient, whether for standard panels, established to screen for specific disease entities, or tailored panels custom-built from individual markers. In addition, users can incorporate additional gates, new markers or add-on panels to assist the diagnostician at any stage of the decision-making process.

Additional technologist time-saving features include a predefined results dictionary, setup to speed data entry, and the calculation of QC results based on instrument derived marker data. As with all NovoPath products, the focus remains on precision. These same features assist in achieving the very highest level of accuracy.

Rick Callahan, VP of Sales and Marketing at NovoPath is an enthusiastic proponent of the Flow Cytometry Module, “Custom defined patient report templates strengthen the competitive advantage of our NovoPath partner labs, giving them superior traction in the marketplace.”

Flow Cytometry / Cell CountingFlow cytometers are used to count, sort and examine multiple characteristics of cells. Other cell analysis equipment includes image cytometers, cell counters, fluorescence-activated cell sorters (FACS), magnetic-activated cell sorters (MACS), and a range of flow cytometry assay kits. Flow cytometers can reveal information on cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression, as well as identify cell populations and intracellular or cell-surface molecules. Additionally, some flow cytometers, known as FACS, have an additional sorting function after analysis. Cell counters and image cytometers count live and dead cell populations and can also conduct cell proliferation assays. Sample preparation and processing includes fixation, staining, sectioning and slide mounting, using equipment such microtomes and cryostats. In choosing immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry kits, consider chromogens, staining method, antibodies, microscopes and imaging.Clinical ChemistryBiochemistry (or clinical chemistry) involves the analysis of bodily fluids using chemical tests. Techniques used include HPLC, chromatography, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, immunochemical, electrophoresis, turbidometric / spectrophotometric assay, MRI and ISE analysis. Tests are often carried out on plasma or serum but urine (urinalysis) and fecal specimens are also processed.Clinical MicrobiologyMicrobiology is the study of microorganisms including protists, prokaryotes, fungi, and, often, viruses. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments. The most popular methods to study cytometry are flow cytometry and image cytometry.
