Product news

STEMCELL Technologies Inc. have launched a new serum-free culture medium known as StemSpan™ SFEM II to support the expansion of hematopoietic stem cell cultures. It provides a 40% higher expansion of the human progenitor CD34+ cells from human cord blood and bone marrow, in comparison to six leading commercially available serum-free media. StemSpan™ SFEM II allows researchers to expand valuable human cell samples and generate stocks of primitive hematopoietic progenitors for further research applications.

“StemSpan™ SFEM II supports equivalent total nuclear cell and superior CD34+ cell expansion as the existing highest performance serum-free media on the market,” said Dr. Bert Wognum, the senior scientist responsible for hematopoietic stem cell expansion medium development at STEMCELL Technologies. “It also supports erythroid and megakaryocyte expansion and may be used by researchers to develop and optimize their own culture systems to generate large numbers of other mature blood cells.”

“We are delighted to support hematopoietic stem cell researchers by providing StemSpan™ SFEM II, allowing them increased flexibility in experimental design for applications requiring large numbers of hematopoietic progenitors” said Dr. Allen Eaves, CEO and President of STEMCELL Technologies.

The high-quality StemSpan™ serum-free media products include StemSpan™ SFEM, StemSpan™ SFEM II, StemSpan™ H3000 and StemSpan™ ACF for ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic progenitor cells.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. The main methods of protein crystallization include sitting drop, hanging drop and microbatch. It is important to control parameters such as pH, temperature and concentration. Following crystallization, detectors and software are used for data collection and analysis.Cell GrowthCell growth refers to the process by which cells increase in size and number. It is essential for tissue development, wound healing, and cancer research. Understanding and controlling cell growth is a fundamental part of cell biology and regenerative medicine. Stem cell research has exciting prospects of biomedical applications in cellular disease modeling, pharmaceutical screening, and regenerative medicine. Hematopoietic Cells
