Product news

Oxidative stress and associated damage to cellular lipids, proteins and DNA can occur when cellular mechanisms fail to deal with the increasing loads of ROS (generation of reactive oxygen species). To detect and quantify this oxidative stress AMSBIO has expanded a range of assay kits. The new kits are highly sensitive, delivered ready-to-use and give reproducible results.

Accurate, simple oxidative stress kits are now available from AMSBIO to analyse biomarkers of DNA, lipid and protein oxidative modification in biological samples. High sensitivity assays for 8-oxo dG (8-OHDG), Nitrotyrosine, Protein Carbonyl, Malondialdehyde, 8-isoprostane, and Superoxide Dismutase are delivered ready-to-use, giving highly reproducible results.

The new kits from AMSBIO combine high sensitivity, the convenience of a 96-well format colorimetric assay and the trust of being well cited in scientific literature. Because researchers typically run many samples, the Superoxide Dismutase, Glutathione Reductase, and Glutathione Assay Kits are supplied with multiple plates for High Throughput use.

Generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by environmental factors like ultraviolet radiation and cigarette smoking is directly responsible for the detrimental effects of oxidative stress. To counteract the effects of ROS in vivo, there are a number of distinct antioxidant mechanisms in place within the cell, such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbic acid, and glutathione. Oxidative stress and associated damage to cellular lipids, proteins and DNA occur when these compensatory mechanisms fail to deal with the increasing loads of ROS. Elevated levels of ROS contribute to a decline in cellular function, and have been reported to coincide with pathologies including cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurological disorders.

Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. The use of biomarkers in research and diagnosis can indicate a normal or disease state or drug response of cells / tissues. Biomarkers include genetic markers, cell surface markers such as antigens, antibodies or receptors and secreted molecules such as cytokines. An assay system is required for identification of biomarkers. :Clinical TrialsClinical Trials, an essential part of drug discovery process, assess the safety and effectiveness of a new medication or device in the pharmaceutical industry. Clinical Trials are a phased process (Phase 0, Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV) which begins after initial preclinical testing.
