Torrey Pines Scientific, Inc. announces its new EchoTherm™ model SC25XT fully programmable variable speed shaking dry bath for use with biological and other samples.

The SC25XT is fully programmable with 5-program memory and a temperature range from -20°C to 100°C. It has a variable speed orbital shaker for mixing samples while controlling sample temperature to 1°C.

Included are a 30-day countdown timer with alarm and Auto-off, data logger, and RS232 I/O port for data logging or controlling the units from a computer.

The SC25XT uses accessory sample blocks available for 0.2, 0.5, 1.5,15 and 50ml centrifuge tubes. Also available are 2ml vials, 20ml scintillation vials, PCR tubes and plates, 96-well and 384-well assay plates of all shapes, deep-well assay plates, and other blocks for various sizes of test tubes. The unit is Peltier driven for chilling and heating.

This unit is an excellent molecular biology tool and can be used to run temperature/time profiles, unattended restriction digestions or ligations, automatic enzyme reactions and deactivations, storing oocytes at 17°C and DNA libraries at the workstation.

Types of freezers include deep freeze, -80C°C, ultra-low temperature, explosion proof, cryogenic and controlled rate freezers. Freezing is also used in freeze-drying equipment for dehydration processes. Feature to consider in freezers include temperature control and recorders, failure alarms and self-closing mechanisms.Shakers, Stirrers and MixersShakers, stirrers and mixers are used for mixing liquids and solids for laboratory applications. There is a wide range of laboratory mixing equipment available, including magnetic stirrers, orbital shakers, linear shakers, microplate shakers, 3D gyratory rockers, rotators & vortexers. Additional platforms and clamps can also be attached to shakers to increase capacity. Centrifuges come in three sizes: microcentrifuges, benchtop and floor-standing centrifuges, depending on the volume and number of samples that require separation. When choosing a centrifuge, consider its maximum separation power indicated by its relative centrifugal force (RCF) value. Low force centrifuges reach a maximum RCF of 8,000 g, high-force centrifuges can reach maximum RCF values of 80,000 g. For extremely high forces, consider ultracentrifuges (up to 800,000 g). Refrigerated and vacuum centrifuges also known as concentrators are available for more specialized applications. A range of volumes are available for centrifuge tubes and microfuge tubes, depending on sample sizes. Assay assembly requires chip assembly, a delivery system and a detection and analysis method. Beneficial features of assay kits or automated systems include high-throughput, high speed and sensitivity and low signal to noise ratio.ScintillationScintillation is an analytical technique used to measure the ionizing radiation of an analyte. At the core of a scintillation counter is a sensor and detector, where the sensor is typically a scintillator crystal. Scintillation also includes liquid scintillation, radiometers and particle counters. Key features of scintillator counters include high resolution, automated multi-detection and high counting efficiency.
