Recently introduced by INTEGRA Biosciences, the state-of-the-art DOSE IT peristaltic pump is especially well suited to laboratories where different dispensing protocols are frequently used and interchanged.

Faced with the need to dispense several hundred samples per day following a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the Microbiological Quality Control Group at F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in Basel, Switzerland, required a flexible programmable pump that was both easy to use and efficient. Using a DOSE IT P910 pump, the Microbiological Quality Control Group has established a program of automated protocols that precisely dispense growth media and buffers into tubes, bottles and Erlenmayer flasks.

Mr Leucci, QC Manager, said "An important feature of a programmable pump is ease of use and DOSE IT clearly fulfils this criterion. We have found it very useful to have the possibility to save several dispensing routines as automated methods. Not just because it is faster, but especially because this way mistakes involving operator rewriting or changing/adapting a dispensing routine for each application can be avoided".

He added "Another useful feature of the DOSE IT is the pause function. After pressing the pause button, the dose being dispensed is completed and then the pump stops. This safe unattended operating mode allows the user to do something else in the lab while the pump is dispensing. This is especially useful when dispensing large doses which take some time to be completed. On returning to the DOSE IT the user can, at a single click of a button, resume the dispensing with the same settings within the same application".

The new generation DOSE IT peristaltic pump makes the dispensing of culture media, buffers and other solutions easy and efficient. An intuitive multilingual user interface, coupled with large ergonomically designed display and keypad, makes the DOSE IT extremely simple to program and operate. Providing high accuracy dispensing across a broad range of dose volumes (0.1 ml - 10 L) and flow rates (0.6 ml/min - 5L/ min) the versatility of the DOSE IT reduces the need for a laboratory to have several single purpose pumps.

The pressures/vacuums generated are determined by the type of pump used. High vacuum pumps include diffusion, ion, roots and turbopumps; for primary/medium vacuum applications see rotary vane pumps, scroll & diaphragm pumps.
