Nikon Instruments has developed a new standalone imaging unit, the DS-L3, to complement its leading Digital Sight range of cameras. Offering synchronicity with a range of microscopes, the touch panel DS-L3 is a multifunctional space saving unit with the ability to control a camera, as well as a microscope, and display images. The improved operation makes the DS-L3 ideal for use with the newly launched Nikon microscopes, the Eclipse Ci-E and Ni- E to optimize all enhanced features.

The first LCD touch panel adopted for use with a digital camera for microscopy, the DS-L3 features an intuitive 8.4 inch display. The user-friendly GUI provides a menu format based on Nikon’s simple Coolpix icons. The DS-L3 also allows the user to set the aperture, field diaphragm and light intensity as well as parfocality on motorized microscopes.

High color reproducibility and high definition images are achieved by the improved image processing function offering smoother diagonal lines with a reduced hatched line effect and pixel correction. In combination with the new DS-Fi2 camera, the DS-L3 offers a frame rate up to 21fps. Ethernet, USB 2.0 and PictBridge support offer flexible connectivity.
