The new 12-well version of RAFT™ (Real Architecture for 3D Tissue™) from The Automation Partnership consists of a workstation, consumables and reagents to create consistent 3D tissue models in less than one hour.

The 12-well and 24-well plate options give scientists the flexibility to produce a range of 3D tissues including multi-cellular models, barrier models and air-liquid interface cultures. The constructs generated can be used for a wide range of cell-based assays or regenerative medicine applications.

The RAFT process has the unique ability of encapsulating viable cells in a natural 3D tissue-strength collagen environment without the use of cross-linking agents. As the cells are captured during the one hour process, there is no requirement for extensive culture periods to allow the cells to infiltrate the 3D matrix, in some cases saving two weeks or more.

Dr Grant Cameron, TAP’s newly appointed RAFT Development Director commented: “We are excited to be introducing the expanded RAFT range at these prestigious US conferences. The new 12-well system offers researchers a simple, convenient method of making larger constructs, which have broad applicability in cell biology, screening, tissue engineering, biomaterial research or regenerative medicine. The tissues produced provide cells with a more realistic environment, allowing scientists working with scarce primary cells to capture and culture these within the tissue model.”

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins.
