Product news

Union Biometrica, Inc. introduces the new BioSorter®. The well established COPAS™ product line consists of 4 instruments, each dedicated to a specific size range. In response to customer requests, Union Biometrica introduced the new BioSorter® platform designed for shared equipment / Core Labs.

Typical samples include:
• small multicellular model organisms (C.elegans, D.melanogaster, Zebrafish)
• delicate large cells / cell clusters (adipocytes, embryoid bodies, pancreatic islets, duct cells, hepatocytes)
• seeds (Arabidopsis, tobacco)
• beads (cells growing in or on beads, combi-chem libraries, bead based assays).

Samples are analyzed one by one in a continuously flowing stream and can be sorted based on size, optical density and up to four fluorescent parameters.

Utilizing the same patented soft-touch air-jet diverter technology, BioSorter can sort and dispense even fragile samples like adipocytes while maintaining their viability.

COPAS™ Large Particle Flow Cytometers

Union Biometrica, Inc.

COPAS instruments provide flow cytometry for objects that are too large for traditional cytometers and offer an alternative to manual sorting (under a microscope). These systems sort and dispense objects based on size and fluorescent parameters. Automating this process offers increased speed, sensitivity, quantification, and repeatability of experiments.

BioSorter® Large Particle Flow Cytometer

Union Biometrica, Inc.

The BioSorter is a large particle flow cytometer designed to analyze, sort and dispense biological materials and other objects ranging in size from 10 to 1500 microns in diameter. The system is designed to handle objects which are too large or too fragile for traditional flow cytometers. Examples include small multicellular model organisms, delicate large cells / cell clusters, small seeds and beads used as microcarriers or for combinatorial libraries. The BioSorter can be configured to accommodate the full 10 to 1500 micron range in four steps, each with a specially engineered Fluidics and Optics Core Assembly optimized for a particular size range. An operator can easily switch between these different modules to maximize sensitivity and speed for any given sample type.

MicrobiologyMicrobiology is the study of microorganisms including protists, prokaryotes, fungi, and, often, viruses. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments. Other cell analysis equipment includes image cytometers, cell counters, fluorescence-activated cell sorters (FACS), magnetic-activated cell sorters (MACS), and a range of flow cytometry assay kits. Flow cytometers can reveal information on cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression, as well as identify cell populations and intracellular or cell-surface molecules. Additionally, some flow cytometers, known as FACS, have an additional sorting function after analysis. Cell counters and image cytometers count live and dead cell populations and can also conduct cell proliferation assays. Useful features of analyzers such as BOD and COD include portability, easy calibration, automation and sensitivity.  Environmental test kits for pH, water, moisture, etc, should be accurate, sensitive, reliable, fast and easy to use.
