Product news

Regular monitoring of pH is often required in many applications in Life Sciences; however the sample volumes are often very small making it difficult to do. The new Micro pH Sensors from METTLER TOLEDO fit any size sample container which eliminates the need for larger volumes in electrochemical analysis, this is exceptionally handy for rare or precious samples.

The InLab® Micro family consists of 5 different micro sensors all designed for specific needs; The Viscous Pro is exclusively designed to measure pH in highly viscous samples. The Ultra-Micro is ideal for measuring in very small vessels such as vials or well plates. The Flex-Micro eliminates the problem of damaged micro electrodes as it flexes before breaking. 751-4mm is recommended for conductivity measurements in life sciences, and finally, the 752-6mm is ideal for direct measurements in test tubes or micro titrations. All of these have been rigorously tried and tested and reliably meet all standard micro applications.

To introduce these mini technological marvels to you, Anachem is currently offering a 250mL bottle of pH Buffer completely FREE when you buy any of the new micro sensors before 31st July 2011. Simply visit the company article page.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. Other meters can also measure the conductivity or dissolved oxygen content of a solution. pH meters, specific ion meters, conductivity meters and dissolved oxygen meters can come as benchtop or portable equipment. A meter’s electrodes can be replaced with easy to clean electrodes or electrodes for difficult media. pH, ion and conductivity meters are typically used in life science research, pharmaceutical testing, food and beverage, environmental and water analysis. Useful features of analyzers such as BOD and COD include portability, easy calibration, automation and sensitivity.  Environmental test kits for pH, water, moisture, etc, should be accurate, sensitive, reliable, fast and easy to use.pH and Conductivity MetersIon and pH meters, used for electrochemical techniques and measurements, measure the concentration of specific ions using electrodes (probes) and a meter. Features of ph and ion meters to consider include temperature compensation, auto-calibration, adjustable resolution, measurable range and accuracy. Meters can be handheld, portable, benchtop and modular.
