Product news

Molecular biology specialist Cambio is introducing the NoviPure™ Soil Protein Extraction Kit, developed and manufactured by MO BIO, to the UK market. Developed for the clean extraction of extracellular and intracellular microbial protein from a wide range of soil types, the new kit delivers total protein with significantly fewer impurities, and higher yields, than using traditional methods.

Central to the NoviPure™ Soil Protein Extraction Kit is a patent-pending two-buffer extraction procedure that utilises bead beating with a mixture of glass and ceramic beads to efficiently lyse cells while solubilising both intracellular and extracellular protein. This technique eliminates the co-extraction of interfering compounds, including humic substances, producing a protein pellet that can be resuspended in any buffer for storage or downstream analysis. Protein extracted using the new kit has been used successfully in 1D and 2D gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry (2D LC-MS/MS). In order to protect valuable samples, all reagents and plastics supplied with the kit are certified protease and protein free.

Reliable soil protein extraction supports researchers in a number of areas, in particular when studying microbial content and determining specific activities taking place within the soil. The isolation and identification of proteins is necessary for determining cellular function, while a knowledge of protein sequences enables the deduction of gene sequences. This offers a further path to associating specific microbes with particular functions.

The NoviPure™ Soil Protein Extraction Kit adds to MO BIO’s extensive range of isolation products, which includes a variety of methodologies for DNA and RNA extraction. MO BIO products are distributed in the UK exclusively by Cambio, as part of Cambio’s portfolio of high quality molecular biology products sourced from leading manufacturers around the world.
