New Formula Gel Protein Staining Solution is More Sensitive and Saves Time

Product news

A ready-to-use protein gel staining solution which offers users a number of useful features and benefits over traditional Coomassie Blue stains, is the latest product to be introduced by electrophoresis specialists CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC. DyeHard™ enables rapid and ultra low background staining for proteins, yet it is as sensitive as a silver stain, detecting amounts of protein in gels to as low as 3 ng.

This new formula solution is designed to reduce the time and number of steps required to stain a protein gel. DyeHard is a new style stain which binds to the proteins within the gel, but not the gel itself. The result is increased sensitivity and the de-staining step needed when using traditional Coomassie Blue stains, is not required when using DyeHard™.

DyeHard gel staining solution, which is odourless, easy-to-dispose of and does not pollute the laboratory environment, is available in two conveniently sized, ready-to-use quantities of 500 ml and 1 litre.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners.
