Seventy percent of critical clinical decisions in the healthcare system are based on diagnostic test results. Yet as hospitals look to optimize the mass amounts of data available to help improve patient care, labs remain a huge source of untapped data. To help optimize that data, Abbott has announced a new technology offering as part of its AlinIQ professional services and informatics solutions: AlinIQ Integrated Platform.

U.S. hospitals would be able to utilize the AlinIQ Integrated Platform and Abbott's professional services group to bring together data across the hospital system, versus solely looking at lab data, and develop customized solutions that address the unique needs of that hospital and its healthcare providers. By gathering data sets across the continuum of care – from diagnostics lab, clinical staffs and more – new insights could be developed that allow care teams to make more informed, rapid decisions related to operational performance, quality assurance and clinical care.

"Pairing our expert advisors with this new cutting-edge software technology can help ensure healthcare providers are harnessing the right insights that could lead to measurably better health outcomes," said Ramiro Roman, divisional vice president and general manager, Diagnostics Professional Services, Abbott. "Turning that data into insights that are specific to a hospital's pain-points could help administrators making high-level decisions– from improving operational and revenue efficiencies to best practices for lab outreach strategies that support the entire continuum of care."

Collaborative solutions to drive innovation

Utilizing data that can lead to operational efficiencies is a priority for hospital systems, so that their healthcare providers can remain focused on patient care. Many hospitals have also experienced an increase in demand for lab services, and a shortage in clinical lab staff.

As the first service offered utilizing the new AlinIQ Integrated Platform, the Business Performance package will focus on identifying operational efficiencies in the lab. Taking a customized approach to each hospital's unique needs, the Business Performance package will use the expertise of Abbott's operational analysts and the platform's ability to collect data from multiple sources to identify insights that could lead reduce administrative and processing costs in the lab. These efficiencies could allow technicians to focus on analyzing diagnostic results and elevating the overall performance of the lab.
