Product news

Labcyte Inc. announced the introduction of the new Deerac Q which integrates two distinct and necessary liquid handling systems into a single platform for preparing low volume genomic assays. By combining the proven Deerac magnetic feedback control (MFC) dispensing technology with a 96-channel pipettor with disposable tips, the Deerac Q saves time, reduces process risks, and eliminates the need to transfer plates between workstations.

According to Stephen Bates, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Support, "It takes less than 8 minutes to first reformat four (4) 96-well DNA plates into one 384-well plate and then add reagents. In the past, researchers used two completely different systems to accomplish these tasks. Our unique combination of a 96-channel head for DNA samples coupled with high-speed, low volume Deerac MFC technology for dispensing reagents provides a unique time- and cost-saving solution."

Genome AnalysisGenomics, the study of genomes, includes functional genomics, evolutionary genomics and comparative genomics. There are many genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing of whole genomes, computational biology and bioinformatics. DNA and nucleic acids must be isolated and concentrated from cells for analysis with kits, automated analyzers and software. Other useful technologies for studying genomics include PCR, microarrays and electrophoresis.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Consequently, the importance of high-quality DNA/RNA extraction and purification equipment cannot be underestimated. Many purification kits are available and are typically optimized for nucleic acid type and source, including plasmid DNA, genomic DNA, mRNA, RNA and viral nucleic acid purification kits. Automated extraction and purification of nucleic acids can be implemented with magnetic bead separator instruments or high-throughput purification workstations. Plate processing systems include microplate handlers for moving plates, heat sealers, stackers and carousels for storage, retrieval and delivery, microplate washers and piercers. Useful features of plate processors include walk-away automation, compatibility and easy integration with microplate systems.Automated Liquid HandlingAutomated liquid handling equipment is used to mix, dilute and dispense allotted volumes of liquid into microplates and other vessels automatically. The robotic, liquid handling arms can dispense from single channel to 3456 multichannel as well as operate nanoliter dispensing, enabling high throughput of samples.
