Olympus has launched the cellSens 1.5 software platform, the latest in its line of industry-leading applications for capturing and analyzing microscope images. cellSens 1.5 features Windows 7 64-bit operation. It fully integrates all the imaging and analysis capabilities of such microscopes as the newly introduced fully motorized Olympus BX63 microscope, along with all previously supported Windows 7-compatible hardware and accessories.

The platform controls both manual-encoded and motorized components for Olympus BX3 microscope systems (BX63, BX53, BX46 and BX43), including nosepieces, fluorescence illuminators, universal condensers and attenuation wheels. cellSens 1.5 is the only software that can support all of the extensive multidimensional image acquisition capabilities of the BX63. When used with the IX81 inverted microscope, cellSens 1.5 is compatible with both Olympus Zero Drift Compensation (ZDC) and ZDC2 focusing systems, which facilitate long-term live-cell imaging studies by correcting for focal drift on demand with the ZDC and continuously in real time with the ZDC2, ensuring live images are always in focus.

The new version of the software has several additional enhancements, including a streamlined method of automatically transferring data on objects in specific regions of interest from one channel to another, making it easier to count chromosomes within nuclei and handle other complex imaging and analysis challenges. It offers enhanced processing with extensive processor- and memory-intensive features, including an optional CI Deconvolution module, which generates results in seconds, rather than minutes. Cell counting, large area stitching, fluorescence unmixing and data sharing all are fast and intuitive.

Because the interface is simple to customize, users can streamline their individual workflows to provide more efficient imaging, processing, measurement, analysis and communication of their data. Several easy-to-use interfaces are available with many preset functions; the My Functions Toolbar and Macros Toolbar can be customized so that specific hardware configurations can be turned into templates for repeated use in image capture or analysis. The system can auto-adjust hardware and image-capture settings to deliver optimal image results.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Data AnalysisData analysis hardware and software is available to make data processing straight-forward yet powerful. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. The purification process typically involves subcellular or membrane protein extraction with cell lysis kits, separation of proteins from cell debris by filtration or spin columns, and the isolation of proteins of interest from other proteins and impurities with affinity purification (including fusion protein tags and antibody binding proteins A, G and L), immunoprecipitation or chromatographic methods, such as ion exchange, size exclusion and immobilized metal affinity chromatography. All purification methods come in multiple formats for your laboratory needs, including agarose or magnetic beads, resins, columns and filter plates. The use of biomarkers in research and diagnosis can indicate a normal or disease state or drug response of cells / tissues. Biomarkers include genetic markers, cell surface markers such as antigens, antibodies or receptors and secreted molecules such as cytokines. An assay system is required for identification of biomarkers. :In Vivo Imaging SystemsIn vivo imaging systems, including pre-clinical imaging systems and medical imaging systems are used to non-invasively visualize and capture images of live animals and plants. Monitor the natural processes or diseases of your subjects using small-animal pre-clinical imaging systems, including single photon positron emission tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (micro-CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray radiography, ultrasound, fluorescence and bioluminescence imagers. Multimodal systems and software solutions are also available for correlative analysis of organ, tissue, cell, or molecular-level processes.
