By their very nature laboratory automation systems and robotic platforms use a lot of disposable plastic tips for the multiple liquid handling tasks they perform in high throughput applications. Whilst these tips fulfil needs for sterility, speed and prevention of cross contamination, the issue of costs, ensuring a constant reliable supply and accumulation of plastic waste can be problematic.

Now, Anachem, the liquid handling specialist, has introduced its own extensive range of high quality robotic tips designed to fit Tecan, Qiagen, Beckman or Gilson Robotic Platforms, with further lines planned for other manufacturer’s equipment. These tips are lower cost, available for next day delivery, plus, Anachem offers a recycling programme for the waste polypropylene racks.

The Anachem robotic tips are very economically priced compared to branded versions”, said Simon Renshaw, Anachem Product Manager. “This adds up to very significant savings for high throughput laboratories. In addition, our large 20,000 square foot Luton based warehouse enables us to commit stock holding, to ensure next day delivery for contracted users throughout the UK.”

For those customers concerned about the plastic waste generated from used tip racks, Anachem, has extended its ‘gogreen’ tip packaging recycling scheme to now include robotic tip racks. Contracted customers can have specially designated recycling bins in their institute. Anachem will then organise collection and recycling of the plastic waste.

Anachem robotic tips fit the designated instrument precisely, adhering to tight tolerances, ensuring easy switch over from manufacturer’s own consumables without the need for re-optimisation. They are packaged in sturdy, specially designed racks that are able to withstand the extreme forces exerted upon them by the workstations. All tips are manufactured from the highest grades of virgin polypropylene and undergo the most vigorous QC/QA testing in the industry. Sterile versions are certified DNase, RNase, DNA, pyrogen and ATP free. Non-sterile tips are certified RNase and DNase free.

Lab-on-a-ChipLab-on-a-chip (LOC) technology uses microfluidic chips, such as microarrays, to perform biochemical assays on a small scale. Benefits of lab-on-a-chip include the small volume of sample required as well as the speed of analysis. In selecting lab-on-a-chip devices consider the assay, cost, reliability, sensitivity and signal to noise ratio.Labware and Lab SuppliesLabware and lab supplies include various forms of glassware, plasticware, reagents and personal protective equipment (PPE) and are used across all scientific laboratories, enabling daily tasks to be performed. Explore a range of flasks and beakers, petri dishes, carboys and storage bottles. Labware such as condensers, desiccators and burettes are also available for more specific tasks. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput.
