Molecular Devices Launches New MetaMorph Integrated Confocal Microscope System

13 Nov 2007

Product news

Molecular Devices, now part of MDS Analytical Technologies, announces a significant advance in high speed imaging technologies with the release of the MetaMorph® ICS (Integrated Confocal System), in partnership with VisiTech International, a manufacturer of confocal hardware. This turnkey, confocal microscope is the first of its kind in the imaging industry. It has the capability to obtain high resolution images in multiple dimensions to support researchers in their exploration of live cell and functional imaging without the limitations inherent in other high-speed imaging technologies. The new MetaMorph ICS microscope will be presented at the American Society for Cell Biology Annual Meeting, December 1-5, 2007 in Washington, DC, at Molecular Devices booth #1203.

In addition to the launch of MetaMorph ICS, Molecular Devices will also demonstrate its Total Imaging Solution technology with the ImageXpress Micro™ imaging system, a modular, high-resolution CCD imager with upgradeable options, such as laser auto-focus for rapid plate-scanning and transmitted light for bright field utility. Molecular Devices’ FlexStation™ 3 benchtop system for cell-based assays, AquaMax™ 2000/4000, the new modular washer series, and the company’s full line of reagent assay kits will round out the remainder of the booth exhibitions. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput.
