AB SCIEX, Phenomenex and Peak Scientific today announced the start of the 2013 tour of the European MASStastic Voyage, featuring a state-of-the-art mobile laboratory traveling across Europe. This lab-on-wheels will provide “open house” opportunities for anyone interested in using mass spectrometry and separation science to solve analytical challenges. Kicking off next week in Holland, the tour will now include a free breakfast seminar on board the mobile lab at each stop in over 20 European cities.

The 2013 European MASStastic Voyage is relevant for anyone involved in food safety testing, drug discovery & development, clinical research, environmental analysis and biomedical research. On board the MASStastic Voyage mobile lab are the latest innovations in analytical instrumentation, including the AB SCIEX QTRAP® 4500 System, QTRAP® 6500 System, TripleTOF® 5600+ System and an Eksigent micro LC system. Samples will be run aboard the mobile lab. Phenomenex will present the newest developments of the Kinetex® Core-Shell HPLC/UHPLC-Technology, allowing customers to realize the maximum performance of their LC systems. Moreover, the free breakfast seminars will provide relevant information not only about these new technologies, but also about new techniques, useful tips and improved methodologies to enhance analytical workflows.

This MASStastic Voyage mobile lab is coming off a successful run at the end of 2012 in Spain and the UK, drawing more than 200 visitors within three weeks, including pharmaceutical scientists, academics, lab technicians and lab directors who attended the EBF Barcelona 2012 conference. Looking ahead, the mobile lab will make a special appearance in April at the Berliner Symposium of mass spectrometry users after its extensive trek across Europe.

“The MASStastic Voyage is the most talked-about activity happening in the mass spectrometry industry in Europe in early 2013, and customer feedback about this tour has been extremely positive,” said Steve Taylor, a manager in AB SCIEX’s European Market Development team. “As we run real samples while traveling thousands upon thousands of kilometers across the continent, we fully expect our instrumentation to be as rugged and reliable at the end of the tour as at the start. We will power up and vent the instrument every day, pushing it well beyond its normal operating parameters.”

Experts in LC/MS/MS solutions from AB SCIEX, Phenomenex and Peak Scientific will be on board the mobile laboratory, available to talk to scientists and lab technicians from industry and academia about a broad array of topics.

“The mass spectrometry expertise of AB SCIEX along with the separation science expertise of Phenomenex has proved to be a potent combination for solving the most urgent and challenging analytical needs of scientists everywhere,” said Michael McGinley, Phenomenex HPLC Product Manager. “This mobile laboratory allows users to see the latest advances in technology and integrated solutions right at their doorstep.”

“Our key to success is being able to reliably support AB SCIEX mass spectrometers, as Peak Scientific gas generators provide a continuous flow of nitrogen ensuring accurate results every time, ” said Andy Reid, European Sales Manager at Peak Scientific. “We are excited to show our customers how robust our generators are within a working laboratory environment, and this mobile lab is a fantastic way to do just that!”

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. It provides detailed information about the structure, composition, and properties of compounds and is widely used across fields such as environmental monitoring, materials science, drug discovery and development, food and beverage testing, and wider chemical research. Key MS techniques include tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LS-MS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS). Choosing from these wide range of techniques and technologies can be a daunting task, so keep up to date with scientific applications, performance expectations, and customer reviews here all in one place. ChromatographyChromatography is a powerful technique used to separate and analyze components of mixtures based on their chemical properties. It is widely used in fields like biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, and environmental analysis. By exploiting differences in the interaction of substances with a stationary phase and a mobile phase, chromatography enables precise purification and quantification of compounds. Whether you're working with complex biological samples or industrial chemicals, chromatography is essential for obtaining high-quality results.
