Merck Millipore Launches the Muse™ Cell Analyzer, a Breakthrough Solution for Multiparametric Analysis on a Single Platform

Product news

Merck Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA* of Germany, today announced the launch of the innovative Muse™ Cell Analyzer system for real-time quantitative assessment of cell concentration, cell health, apoptosis, and cell cycle with greater accuracy and precision than manual hemocytometry or image-based automated analysis.

By providing real-time, multi-dimensional information on cell populations, the compact Muse™ cell analyzer enables faster, more accurate decision-making, more productive workflows, and is designed to provide a greater insight in to cell health.

The Muse™ system delivers high-performance cell analysis using patent-pending, miniaturized fluorescent detection and microcapillary technology which occupy one-tenth the space of a typical cytometer. Laser-based fluorescence detection of each cell event can evaluate up to three cellular parameters. As a result, Muse™ provides accurate quantitative results compared to imaging-based systems, which only examine up to two parameters, are time-consuming and ultimately provide less quantitative data. The system is capable of analyzing both suspension and adherent cells from two to sixty μm in diameter. Intuitive software and simple touchscreen interface enable rapid set-up and analysis.

“The Muse™ system occupies an important place in our line of cell analysis platforms and delivers unique benefits to researchers,” describes John Sweeney, Head of Life Science Business Field, Merck Millipore. “With Muse™, researchers can gain new insights into cell health with greater precision and accuracy than they have come to experience with existing cell analysis techniques and instruments, without the price barrier as the system is priced just above $12,000.”

To further optimize workflows, the Muse™ Cell Analyzer is designed to work with all-in-one kits, specifically validated for robust performance on the system. Kits include cell count and viability, apoptosis and cell cycle and come with all the reagents necessary for proper sample preparation.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Other cell analysis equipment includes image cytometers, cell counters, fluorescence-activated cell sorters (FACS), magnetic-activated cell sorters (MACS), and a range of flow cytometry assay kits. Flow cytometers can reveal information on cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression, as well as identify cell populations and intracellular or cell-surface molecules. Additionally, some flow cytometers, known as FACS, have an additional sorting function after analysis. Cell counters and image cytometers count live and dead cell populations and can also conduct cell proliferation assays. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Find the best cell-based assay products, kits and equipment with our peer reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receiving pricing direct from manufacturers.Cell AnalysisThe analysis of cells allows researchers to understand the factors which contribute to cell health and function. These influencing processes can then be predicted and altered, leading to the development of medication and disease treatments.
