Product news

Malvern Instruments is to showcase the company’s range of analytical solutions for pharmaceutical materials characterization at Booth #3145 during the 2013 AAPS Annual Meeting & Exposition, from 11-14th November in San Antonio TX, USA.

Visitors can tap into the expertise of Malvern’s technical and applications specialists and find out how the company’s range of technologies and instrumentation provides valuable information across the entire pharmaceutical development spectrum, from pre-formulation through to quality control.

New systems on show will include the Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 multi-angle light scattering detector for GPC/SEC. The new Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 has more detectors than any other commercially available multi angle light scattering system and provides the increased low angle detection necessary to ensure accurate molecular weight calculation for polymer, protein and macromolecular species.

Malvern’s booth will also feature the world-leading Mastersizer 3000 laser diffraction particle size analyzer and systems from the Zetasizer Nano range, which offer measurement of particle size, zeta potential, molecular weight, protein mobility and microrheology.

Malvern’s range of technologies and instrumentation spans pharmaceutical development and manufacturing processes and provide in depth insight into pharmaceutical molecules. They deliver information on a wide variety of key performance parameters such as size, distribution, zeta potential, molecular weight and viscosity, for a broad range of sample sizes and types.

Experts will be on hand throughout the event for instrument demonstrations and to discuss aspects of the entire range, from established Malvern techniques through to newly released analytical solutions.

Together Malvern’s range of analytical techniques provides comprehensive analysis for every facet of pharmaceutical development and manufacture.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. SEC is further subdivided into gel filtration chromatography (GFC) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) when an aqueous or organic mobile phase is used respectively. HPLC-based SEC systems and columns are available for analytical separation alongside SEC spin columns or filters to prep samples for many protocols. Multiple tecchniques are available for determining particle size, shape and count including dynamic light scattering (DLS), laser diffraction, electrozone (Coulter technique), imaging particle analysis and single particle optical sensing. Determine the density of your material with a gas pycnometer or examine its surface area and porosity with gas adsorption analyzers and mercury porosimeters. It is commonly used in materials science, nanotechnology, and protein characterization. Browse our peer-reviewed product directory to find the best dynamic light scattering systems, compare products, check reviews, and get pricing directly from manufacturers.PharmaceuticalsPharmaceuticals are medicinal drugs used in healthcare to diagnose, prevent, cure and treat illnesses. Pharmaceuticals that are excreted after use appear in wastewater and can have detrimental effects on the environment.
