LGC, international science-based company and market leader in laboratory services, has upgraded its electronic document management system (eDMS) by installing X-docs™ and X-forms™ software from compliance experts GXPi. The two new integrated systems will ensure that all documentation pertaining to LGC’s Health Sciences division’s standard operating procedures, policies guides and audit management will be easier to create, maintain and retrieve.

With LGC Health Sciences providing flexible and comprehensive analytical solutions to meet challenges in R&D, quality assurance, regulatory and investigative activities it must ensure it utilizes the best technology available to it. As well as the functionality and ease-of-use of its systems, GXPi was chosen due to the configurability of the Standard Validated Platform and its project delivery methodology, which allows a fast implementation time from requirements capture, and leverage of GXPi’s extensive validation testing of the core product, as Dr Frances Crummay, Business Systems Director, LGC explains:

“The global nature of our work often means working under very tight time pressures and fixed deadlines to get new systems in, tested, validated and our existing documents migrated across. We needed a supplier that not only understood the IT issues, but could also deliver quickly a compliant solution and understand the regulatory requirements of computerized systems’ use in the Health Sciences. We chose GXPi and X-docs and have been repaid with a highly effective eDMS and Audit Management Solution, that makes our lives easier and is available on a single platform. We are keen to roll out X-docs™ to other parts of the group over time.”

The need for a configurable system, tailored to their nomenclature and business processes was delivered within the six-week deadline set by LGC, with GXPi having to make the most of its pre-validated documentation and sophisticated automated installation and build tools to meet these stringent criteria.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. There are many genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing of whole genomes, computational biology and bioinformatics. DNA and nucleic acids must be isolated and concentrated from cells for analysis with kits, automated analyzers and software. Other useful technologies for studying genomics include PCR, microarrays and electrophoresis.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Consequently, the importance of high-quality DNA/RNA extraction and purification equipment cannot be underestimated. Many purification kits are available and are typically optimized for nucleic acid type and source, including plasmid DNA, genomic DNA, mRNA, RNA and viral nucleic acid purification kits. Automated extraction and purification of nucleic acids can be implemented with magnetic bead separator instruments or high-throughput purification workstations. DNA sequencers and genetic analyzers are based on capillary electrophoresis, where labeled DNA fragments are electrophoretically separated by size as they migrate through a polymer.
