The latest winners of the coveted Seal of Quality awards have been announced, recognizing the laboratory products that have consistently received outstanding reviews from scientists across the globe.

The Seals of Quality recognize the top 0.1% of products that consistently receive the highest customer review ratings on SelectScience® and are designed to help scientists and healthcare professionals worldwide immediately recognize the instruments and services their peers rate the highest.

This final announcement of 2024 welcomes new Seal of Quality awards for four products. Plus, we share a round-up of all the Seals that were awarded in 2024.

Rare Diamond for NanoEntek

Congratulations to NanoEntek for earning its first Diamond Seal of Quality for its Disposable Hemocytometers. The product range has received a remarkable 500 reviews with an average rating of 4.8 out of a possible 5. NanoEntek’s Disposable Hemocytometers are only the second product to have ever received this honor.

Reviewer NuRy Lee, from InnobationBio, praised the product, “I absolutely love this product! It exceeded my expectations in every way. The quality is top-notch, and it works exactly as promised. I’m so happy with my purchase, and I can definitely see myself buying it again in the future. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for something reliable and effective!”

NanoEntek are no strangers to the Seal of Quality awards, its Automated Cell Counters earned a Platinum award in 2023.

Maintaining momentum

CURIOSIS has earned another Seal of Quality, achieving its first Silver for the Celloger® range. This innovative product has so far received 75 reviews with a perfect average star rating of 5 out of a possible 5. This range of automated live cell imaging systems captures dynamic cellular processes, with real-time cell monitoring. This is the second Seal to be awarded to CURIOSIS, after it earned a Bronze award at the start of the year.

Reviewer Ji-Yoon Noh, from Korea Research Institute of Bioscience & Biotechnology, highlighted its impact, “By enabling real-time observation of cell-cell interactions in the optimal culture environment, data acquisition is achieved compared to traditional microscope observations outside the CO2 incubator. This advancement significantly enhances the quality and reliability of experimental results.”

Brand-new Bronze

Two products have been awarded Bronze Seals of Quality, each receiving impressive feedback from the scientific community.

BMG LABTECH’s FLUOstar® Omega Plate Reader, a multi-functional plate reader, has garnered 50 reviews and has an impressive average rating of 4.7 out of a possible 5, earning it a new Bronze Seal of Quality.

Reviewer Stefan Pusch, from German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), noted, “We purchased this system more than 10 years ago and all its functions are regularly used. We never experienced any issue with this machine. We only did the regular maintenance, and it has never failed us so far. Although it is frequently used by inexperienced users (students, internships) and people from other labs for single measurements. It is very user-friendly, easy to personalize for each user and always achieves excellent measurement if correctly used. The precision of this machine taught many students to put more effort into the precision of their cell culture pipetting.”

Advanced Instruments’ Artel PCS® Pipette Calibration System has also earned a new Bronze Seal of Quality, receiving 50 reviews with a respectable average star rating of 4.7 out of 5.

Reviewer Michelle Chavez, from Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Dept., shared, “The entire purchase process was smooth, the training was thorough, and the instrument & software are very easy to use! Tech support is very helpful, I had accidentally forgotten my user login for the software & they got me situated.”

Your 2024 Seal of Quality round-up

Here is a brief round-up of all the Seals of Quality awards we announced this year:

Your reviews make a difference

The Seals of Quality started in 2017, with the goal of assisting scientists in making important purchasing decisions by recognizing the products that have consistently received the highest review ratings. There are now 90 lab products currently permitted to display a SelectScience Seal of Quality.

New Seals of Quality are announced quarterly and alongside the Scientists’ Choice Awards®. Look out for new announcements at the start of 2025.

Flow Cytometry / Cell CountingFlow cytometers are used to count, sort and examine multiple characteristics of cells. Other cell analysis equipment includes image cytometers, cell counters, fluorescence-activated cell sorters (FACS), magnetic-activated cell sorters (MACS), and a range of flow cytometry assay kits. Flow cytometers can reveal information on cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression, as well as identify cell populations and intracellular or cell-surface molecules. Additionally, some flow cytometers, known as FACS, have an additional sorting function after analysis. Cell counters and image cytometers count live and dead cell populations and can also conduct cell proliferation assays. Lab equipment for light microscopy includes confocal microscopes, fluorescence microscopes, zoom and stereo microscopes. Microscope slides and imaging reagents are available for visualizing samples, as well as various microscope stages and incubators for large or temperature-sensitive samples. Sample preparation and processing includes fixation, staining, sectioning and slide mounting, using equipment such microtomes and cryostats. In choosing immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry kits, consider chromogens, staining method, antibodies, microscopes and imaging.Fluorescence SpectroscopyFluorometers and spectrofluorometers (also called fluorescence spectrometers) are used to measure the intensity and wavelength of fluorescent light emitted from a sample after excitation by illumination. Spectrofluorometers utilize monochromators to select the desired wavelengths, whereas filter fluorometers employ a set of filters. Spectrofluorometers for measuring steady-state fluorescence and lifetime fluorescence (or time-resolved fluorescence) are available, as well as fluorescence microscopes and microplate readers. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput.
