Product news

KNAUER Advanced Scientific Instruments will be presenting several of the newest additions to its product range at Analytica 2006 under the motto “Go for Gold”.

Attendees visiting KNAUER’s booth will have the chance to get more information on these and other KNAUER products, as well as to enter a sweepstakes to win one of three “golden” prizes.

The new Smartline Assistant 6000 is a flexible and economical new module, designed to fit perfectly into the compact Smartline Power Tower. Built-to-order equipped with one or more switching valves, feed pumps or even a UV detector, the Smartline Assistant 6000 can be used for a variety of applications such as sample injection, solid phase extraction, column switching, and fraction collection. Every component can be controlled either stand-alone or with KNAUER chromatography software.

Also on display will be the award-winning Smartline Detector 2600, KNAUER’s innovative multi-wavelength UV detector with PDA capability, now available in a fiber optics version. With the new fiber optics flow cell, the flow cell can be easily positioned outside of the detector, directly at the column inlet, for instance, or in a hazardous environment.

The new Smartline Column Oven 4000 is KNAUER’s first column thermostat in the Smartline style. The contact oven offers solvent preheating for uniform temperature distribution along the column and solvent cooling at the outlet to prevent peak broadening and minimize detector noise. The Smartline Column Oven 4000 is easily integrated into any Smartline and Prepline Tower.

Based on the well-known KNAUER Type Dig. L Semi-Micro Osmometer, the new Semi-Micro Osmometer K-7400 is designed for the determination of osmolality in physiological fluids. Measurement is performed automatically once the sample is introduced. Measurement values can be read out over the display or be sent over the RS-232 connector to a PC or printer.

The new FRC option is an add-on for KNAUER’s “high-end“ chromatography software ChromGate®, extending the software’s capabilities into the preparative HPLC range. Purification of value products is easily automated when using ChromGate® with the new FRC option by providing complete control of fraction collection with features such as peak recycling, peak shaving, virtual detectors, as well as direct-control and auto-recover functions. With the SMB option, KNAUER’s SMB (simulated moving bed) systems are also easily controlled with ChromGate®, making it possible thereby to upscale from analytical to preparative to SMB, without ever having to leave the same familiar software environment.

KNAUER will also present at Analytica its newest chromatography software package, ClarityChrom. An economical alternative to ChromGate® software, ClarityChrom is designed for smaller laboratories while still offering FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. ClarityChrom is to replace KNAUER’s EuroChrom software as of the second half of 2006.

Attendees visiting KNAUER’s booth at Analytica 2006 will have the chance to see all of these new products and software packages. Visitors can also enter a sweepstakes to win one of three “golden” prizes: a weekend in Berlin with golden Else, a weekend in Prague, the golden city, or a weekend in Innsbruck at the golden Dacherl.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. The two major instrument classes are single-beam or double-beam spectrophotometers. More specialized equipment includes colorimeters, spectroradiometers and refractometers. Portable and microvolume spectrophotometers are also available. For the modular spectroscopy lab, explore a range of light sources for combination with a spectrograph/spectrometer and optics. Incubators are necessary equipment for cell culture and microbial research. Control temperature with heated or refrigerated incubators, or the levels of CO2 and oxygen with CO2 incubators. Using environmental chambers, create a humid climate for testing samples.
