ibidi GmbH, a supplier of solutions for BioMicroscopy, has published new data on homogeneous cell growth.

The data are based on ibidi's microscopy carriers, the µ-Slides and show superior cell distribution and phase contrast images over the entire cell adhesion area - a significant advantage compared to open well culture systems.

The µ-Slides are carriers for the cultivation and subsequent imaging of cells. In an article in the latest issue of Biotech International cell densities are evaluated using imaging of crystal violet-stained cell layers, phase contrast, and fluorescence microscopy. Cell cultures in microchannels have been compared with open well cultures, using similar adhesion areas. In open wells, the meniscus formed at the walls seriously affects the homogeneity of the cells. In contrast, cells inside channels of µ-Slides always appear perfectly homogeneous distributed.

ibidi´s responsible project manager, Elias Horn, commented:

“The homogeneity inside the channels is a consequence of the microfluidic properties of the µ-Slides, in particular the height of the channel being only 0.4 mm. Therefore, highly defined cell densities can be utilized in order to measure cell proliferation, and cell cycle times. Consequently, the high optical quality of the µ–Slides allows their utilization for cell based assays in research and high throughput applications.”

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Light MicroscopyLight microscopes or optical microscopes are used to visualize microscale objects under magnification, including cells, clinical specimens and materials. Lab equipment for light microscopy includes confocal microscopes, fluorescence microscopes, zoom and stereo microscopes.
