Product news

BioTek Instruments Inc., announced today that Cisbio International has awarded HTRF® certification for the Synergy™ 2 Multi-Detection Microplate Readers. With this certification, Cisbio International guarantees that Synergy 2 meets or exceeds all the strict performance and functional criteria for optimal HTRF readout.

The new combination of Synergy 2 and the Cisbio reagent system will provide researchers in life science and drug discovery with increased productivity and extended flexibility. The Synergy 2 with HTRF certification will debut at Lab Automation 2007, January 27-31, 2007 in Palm Springs, California.

“Cisbio’s HTRF assay platform is very popular in screening laboratories because it allows assay developers to design robust homogeneous assays that can easily be miniaturized and automated”, noted Xavier Amouretti, Product Manager at BioTek Instruments. “To be HTRF certified, a microplate reader must meet a set of strict criteria, and requires a very sensitive TRF measurement system. This certification highlights the exquisite sensitivity and performance one can achieve with Synergy 2 while still offering multi-detection flexibility.”

Synergy 2, powered by BioTek’s Gen5™ Data Analysis Software, is a modular multi-detection microplate reader incorporating detection modes for Fluorescence Intensity, Fluorescence Polarization, Time Resolved Fluorescence, Luminescence and UV-visible Absorbance. Synergy 2 uses a unique combination of monochromator, filters, and dichroic mirrors and three broad-spectrum light sources for optimal illumination that provide the best possible level of performance in all detection modes without performance degradation typical in most multi-detection systems.

Cisbio International is a global developer of technologies used in assay development and drug screening procedures to enhance drug discovery. Cisbio pioneered homogenous fluorescence methodologies via its proprietary technology, HTRF®, a highly sensitive, robust technology platform for the detection of biomolecular interactions. The company also produces a selection of biological reagents and methods used by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

BioTek Instruments, Inc., headquartered in Winooski, VT, is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture, and sale of microplate instrumentation and software. The BioTek Instruments, Inc. instrumentation is used to accelerate the drug discovery process, to advance discoveries in genomics and proteomics, and to aid in the advancement of life science research.

Microplate Readers / DetectorsMicroplate readers are used to automate the detection and analysis of labeled or label-free components in microplates during assays or live-cell monitoring. Microplate readers are generally distinguished by their mode of detection. Types include absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, TRF / FRET and multimode microplate readers. Microplate readers deliver a high throughput of samples by reading multiple wells simultaneously, with the 96-well format the most commonly used. As a result, microplate readers are often used in the drug discovery, bioassays, research and pharmaceutical industries for screening applications. Microplate loading can also be automated, with robotic microplate stackers to increase throughput. Assay assembly requires chip assembly, a delivery system and a detection and analysis method. Beneficial features of assay kits or automated systems include high-throughput, high speed and sensitivity and low signal to noise ratio.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms.
