Industry news

HORIBA’s current suite of offerings encompasses applications across the entire pharmaceutical lifecycle — from drug discovery and development to manufacturing and quality control.

HORIBA’s technologies are designed to meet the rigorous demands of pharmaceutical processes, to ensure precision, efficiency, and compliance. The newly enhanced portfolio supports key applications such as:

• Cell culture media analysis: Accurate monitoring of cell culture environments to optimize biopharmaceutical production.

• Vaccine development: Advanced analytical tools for formulation and quality control to streamline vaccine research, manufacturing, and QA/QC.

• Protein and biomolecule characterization: Precise measurement and analysis of molecular interactions critical for therapeutic development.

• Particle size and morphology: Understanding and ensuring dynamics, consistency, and quality in pharmaceutical formulations.

• Contaminant detection: Safeguarding the integrity of drug products by identifying and quantifying impurities.

HORIBA launched two new products at Pittcon Conference and Exposition 2025 to complement the current suite:

• The new Veloci™ A-TEEM BioPharma Analyzer is a unique solution for the biopharma and pharma industries that combines the selectivity of chromatography with the advantages of optical spectroscopy. This technology provides a fast, cost-effective, and user-friendly approach to component analysis and eliminates the need for traditional column-based separations.

Veloci utilizes label-free intrinsic fluorescence analysis, providing unprecedented precision and efficiency over a wide range of applications, including monoclonal antibody discrimination, cell media monitoring, vaccine characterization, protein stability analysis, and adeno-associated virus (AAV) quantification.

• The PoliSpectra Rapid Raman Plate Reader is a high-throughput Raman screening tool designed for the pharmaceutical industry that uses Raman spectroscopy to measure 96 wells in one minute. The RPR’s non-destructive sampling enables live reaction monitoring, and formulation optimization, providing high spectral quality for in-depth characterization.

Raman SpectroscopyRaman spectroscopy is used to discern the vibrational and rotational states of molecules and hence the chemical composition of a sample by measuring the inelastic scattering of monochromatic light. Explore a range of Raman spectrometers, including handheld/portable Raman spectrometers for QC/QA labs and in situ spectrometers for processes. Conduct Raman imaging for microanalysis of mixed samples using a Raman microscope. Raman spectrographs are also available. Find the best Raman spectroscopy products in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Mass SpectrometryMass spectrometry (MS) is a powerful analytical technique used to identify and quantify molecules based on the mass-to-charge ratio of gas-phase ions. It provides detailed information about the structure, composition, and properties of compounds and is widely used across fields such as environmental monitoring, materials science, drug discovery and development, food and beverage testing, and wider chemical research. Key MS techniques include tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LS-MS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS). Choosing from these wide range of techniques and technologies can be a daunting task, so keep up to date with scientific applications, performance expectations, and customer reviews here all in one place. Visit our product directory to receive quotes direct from the manufacturer. LC-MSLC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) systems and equipment are used for separation and quantitative analysis of complex mixtures, combining liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. Find the best LC-MS equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. Use HTS readers and integrated assay preparation / analysis workstations to screen your compounds. Identify active compounds against various HTS libraries, including membranes, proteins and peptides and HTS cell lines. Find the best high-throughput screening products in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Monoclonal AntibodiesMonoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are lab-made molecules that can bind to specific antigens on cells, making them highly effective in treating cancers, autoimmune diseases, and infections. These targeted therapies are transforming the treatment landscape for many conditions. Browse our peer-reviewed product directory to find monoclonal antibodies for research and clinical applications; compare products, check reviews, and get pricing directly from manufacturers.Antibody Drug ConjugatesMaterial AnalysisBiopharmaceuticalsBiopharmaceuticals are proteins and other compounds (such as nucleic acids) produced by living organisms that have uses as therapeutics or for in vivo diagnostics. The most well known example of a biopharmaceutical product, and the first to be approved for therapeutic use, was recombinant human insulin.
