Product news

Hamilton’s MICROLAB NIMBUS is designed as a personalised pipetting workstation, offering speed, flexibility, performance and affordability, all in a compact, space-efficient footprint.

To meet the requirements of different end-users, NIMBUS is available in two primary configurations. For those needing superior flexibility, the NIMBUS 4 platform features up to four independently controlled pipetting channels (1ml or 5ml), capable of pipetting to/from tubes and microplates. For those requiring higher speeds and throughput, the NIMBUS 96 platform features a 96 channel (1ml) multi-pipetting head, ideal for fast serial dilutions, plate replications and reformatting.

Both NIMBUS platforms incorporate proven air displacement pipetting technology, delivering superior accuracy (2.5% avg. |R|) and precision (2% avg. CVs) across a broad dynamic volume range from 0.5 to 5000µl. Air-displacement pipetting affords the use of other powerful Hamilton technologies: ‘Monitored Air Displacement’ (NIMBUS 4 only) which verifies successful aspiration or reagent or sample; and ‘Anti-Drip Control’ which eliminates droplet formation in the tip and minimizes risk of contaminating the pipetting work surface. Hamilton’s novel CO-RE (Compressed O-ring Expansion) technology is also standard on both platforms, allowing for robust tip pick-up and a positional precision of 0.1mm in all axes.

The NIMBUS 4 and NIMBUS 96 systems incorporate “capacitive Liquid Level Detection” (cLLD), providing real-time feedback of volumes in plates and tubes as automated methods are executed. In addition, the NIMBUS 4 platform also allows for “pressure-based Liquid Level Detection” (pLLD), essential for successful pipetting of non-conductive reagents and volatiles.

Both NIMBUS platforms feature an optional gripper, capable of moving plates and NTRs on or off the Nimbus deck. 270° rotation and extended reach allows integration with off-deck peripheral devices. NIMBUS also offers an array of on-deck integration options, including heater/shaker, vacuum station and magnetic separation devices.

A cumulative blend of enabling technology, a range of integrated options, intuitive software and the backing of Hamilton’s renowned service and applications support makes the NIMBUS an essential tool for budget and space-constrained labs.
