Product news

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostics products, today announced the availability of Bio-Rad’s product application guide (bulletin 5453A), describing the application of Bio‑Rad’s Experion™ automated electrophoresis system for glycoprotein visualization and analysis.

This six-page technical bulletin highlights the Experion system’s benefits over SDS-PAGE and is supported by chromatograms, tables, protein-ladders, and other graphic figures. The Experion system provides reproducible sizing and quantitation data, quick visualization, overlay capability, and digitized results in glycosolated and unglycosolated proteins in a fraction of the time required to perform similar analysis by SDS-PAGE.

The technical bulletin contains a detailed introduction to glycosylation and addresses issues associated with misglycosylation of glycoproteins, methods description, results discussion, and a conclusion that summarizes the application of the Experion system to the visualization and analysis of glycoproteins.

Bulletin 5453A is available either from a local Bio-Rad sales office or can be downloaded via the article webpage.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. Explore a range of a gel imaging systems, densitometers, scanners, transilluminators or UV lamp + CCD cameras for your image analysis solutions. Colorimetric, fluorescent and/or radioisotopic samples can be visualized and documented for further analysis.
