Ge HealthCare's New NanoVue™ Easy-to-Use Spectrophotometer Now Available
4 Mar 2008Product news
GE Healthcare announces the launch of its new NanoVue™ spectrophotometer, with its special “drop and measure” feature. NanoVue is a UV/Visible spectrophotometer which quickly and accurately quantifies DNA, RNA, oligo and protein samples. Its convenient drop and read sample plate eliminates cuvettes and capillaries.
Easy–to-use, NanoVue allows sensitive measurements of very small (< 2 μl) samples. Users simply pipette onto the sample plate, with results delivered in under five seconds.
See the new NanoVue at PITTCON Conference & Expo 2008 or register for a trial via the article webpage.
Key features:
- No cuvettes, capillaries or other sample devices
- Quick and easy cleaning, reducing the risk of cross-contamination.
- Accurately assays low volumes of 0.5-5μl, conserving precious samples
- Pre-defined methods for nucleic acid and protein quantification
- Fast instrument start-up and intuitive software for ease of use
- Large, easy-to-read display with relevant parameters at touch of button

UV-Visible SpectroscopyUltraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometers are used to measure the interaction of UV and visible light with a sample, including transmission, reflectance & absorbance. The two major instrument classes are single-beam or double-beam spectrophotometers. More specialized equipment includes colorimeters, spectroradiometers and refractometers. Portable and microvolume spectrophotometers are also available. For the modular spectroscopy lab, explore a range of light sources for combination with a spectrograph/spectrometer and optics. Oligonucleotides can be made via enzymatic cleavage or more commonly by chemical synthesis with polymerases. Their use includes FISH, southern blots, microarrays and as primers in PCR. High fidelity synthesis kits and detection systems are available for easy production and detection, respectively.ProteomicsProteomics is the systemic bioinformatics study of proteins and amino acids, including their structure, size, function and identification. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.DNA / RNA Extraction and PurificationPurified DNA and RNA are required for numerous downstream molecular biology applications. Consequently, the importance of high-quality DNA/RNA extraction and purification equipment cannot be underestimated. Many purification kits are available and are typically optimized for nucleic acid type and source, including plasmid DNA, genomic DNA, mRNA, RNA and viral nucleic acid purification kits. Automated extraction and purification of nucleic acids can be implemented with magnetic bead separator instruments or high-throughput purification workstations.
