GE Healthcare announces the launch of ÄKTAmicro™ liquid chromatography system, specifically designed for small sample volumes and concentrations, giving reproducible high resolution purification and enabling characterization of target molecules.

The new system includes a Microfraction Collection Kit for collection of minute fraction volumes and an adapted UNICORN™ wizard control system for improved ease of use. With an optional degasser and the ability to connect to light scattering detectors, the system is ideal for molecular characterization.

ÄKTAmicro™ is a completely bioinert system that can be used for purification of target molecules from a range of sources, such as intact proteins, protein complexes and nucleotides and is ideal for use in the characterization of target molecules. The system is also very well suited for rapid purity/recovery analysis in method development and drug discovery. The system offers great application flexibility, including reversed phase and ion exchange chromatography techniques, as well as gel filtration (size-exclusion chromatography).

The integrated UNICORN software enables real-time control of chromatography and peptide synthesis systems on any scale, from laboratory bench through development to full-scale production. It is currently used in many biopharmaceutical production processes approved by the FDA. The Method Wizard provides easy method generation, and extensive data evaluation can be done using automated Evaluation Procedures.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. Equipment includes ion exchange columns, ion exclusion columns, ion chromatography systems, pumps, and detectors. Find the best ion chromatography equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Size Exclusion ChromatographySize exclusion chromatography (SEC) is a liquid chromatographic technique used to separate and identify molecules based on their size, including polymers, proteins, nanoparticles & nucleic acid. SEC is further subdivided into gel filtration chromatography (GFC) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) when an aqueous or organic mobile phase is used respectively. HPLC-based SEC systems and columns are available for analytical separation alongside SEC spin columns or filters to prep samples for many protocols. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Software PlatformsSoftware platforms are useful for various stages of laboratory experiments from data collection to data storage and processing. For instance lab software is available for system control, data management, data analysis and qualification / validation.
